Hello, travelers of the 
Imagining incredible landscapes and close encounters with fascinating animals is something many of us do, but the reality is that few can afford to travel to the most remote places on the planet.
Fortunately, there are places like zoos that bring us closer to wildlife in a responsible and educational way. Today I want to share with you my visit to the Ciego de Ávila Zoo in Cuba. Do you remember the last time you had an experience like that? I invite you to discover it with me!

Visualizar con paisajes increíbles y encuentros cercanos con animales fascinantes es algo que nos pasa a muchos, pero la realidad es que pocos pueden permitirse viajar a los lugares más remotos del planeta.
Por suerte, existen espacios como los zoológicos, que nos acercan a la fauna salvaje de forma responsable y educativa. Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes mi visita al Parque Zoológico de Ciego de Ávila, Cuba. ¿Recuerdas la última vez que viviste una experiencia así? ¡Te invito a descubrirlo conmigo!
To begin this wonderful encounter with the environment, we walked along a path lined with imposing trees. The lush tropical vegetation frames much of the landscape, creating a natural and fresh setting, right above the zoo's welcome banner.
Among wide expanses of grass, paths at the entrance surrounded by abundant plants, decorative sculptures, clearings, and animal statues like lions, my recreational journey begins.
Para iniciar este maravilloso encuentro con el medioambiente, avanzamos por un sendero bordeado de imponentes árboles. La frondosa vegetación tropical enmarca gran parte del paisaje, creando un escenario natural y fresco, sobre la pancarta de bienvenida al zoológico.
Entre amplias extensiones de césped, caminos en la entrada rodeada de abundante plantas, esculturas decorativas, picadas y estatuas de animales como leones, comienza mi travesía recreativa.
The entrance fee to the facility is 25 Cuban pesos for adults and 10 pesos for children, so once tickets are in hand, the tour begins—quite accessible and affordable, to be honest. There’s no excuse not to explore it.
At first glance, there’s little crowding, suggesting a relaxed visit where you can observe the animals calmly. The first creatures I saw were reptiles: an iguana resting on the orchids, very photogenic, hehe, and some crocodiles or caimans taking a nap or just watching the visitors.

Continuing with the adventurous routine, we noticed the presence of a clown in the distance, who, with gestures and signs characteristic of his craft, performed his antics and invited us to take photos with him.
Although the space is modest, the park's caretakers strive, despite the economic challenges facing the country, to keep the animals in adequate and safe conditions, following basic feeding and welfare practices.
Continuando con la rutina aventurera, notamos la presencia de un payaso a lo lejos, que con gestos y señas característicos de su arte, hacía sus gracias y nos invitaba a tomarnos fotos junto a él.
Aunque el espacio es modesto, los cuidadores del parque se esfuerzan mediante las situaciones económicas que presenta el país en mantener a los seres en condiciones adecuadas y seguras, siguiendo prácticas de alimentación y bienestar básico.
Among the mammals closest to visitors are the ponies, often used for short children's rides or simply observed while grazing peacefully. Also, the Ankole-Watusi, a cattle breed famous for its enormous horns.
We also caught an Anolis lizard, one of the many scaly reptiles that abound everywhere in Cuba. They can change color, which gives them the common name of chameleons.

I took some photos of geese that were resting under the roofs. They stay in small areas, walking freely around the space, adding life and relaxing sounds to the environment.

One of the most striking moments was encountering the majestic peacock, displaying its blue and green plumage and stealing all the attention in the place.
It turned slowly and vibrated its feathers so that everyone could appreciate its splendor, while emitting a sharp call. It was the first time I had witnessed this phenomenon in person.

Elsewhere, behind metal cages, a group of primate mammals—many species of the genus—truly the best thing the zoo has to offer.
They are very photogenic, accept food, and play with the staff, leading an active social life. They belong to the same taxonomic order as human beings. That interaction, though simple, creates a special moment where the animal watches you almost as much as you watch it.
En otra parte, detrás de jaulas metálicas, un conjunto de mamíferos primates, de muchas especies del género, la verdad es lo mejor qué hay en el zoológico.
Son muy fotogénicos, aceptan comida y juegan con el personal, con una vida social activa, pertenecen a la misma orden taxonómica que los seres humanos. Esa interacción, aunque sencilla, crea un momento especial, donde el animal te observa casi tanto como tú a él.
As for the pair of chimpanzees, they were resting in their area, trying to reach food outside the cage, without much interest in interacting with people. But at least they let us enjoy their antics and natural behavior.
En cuanto a la pareja de chimpancé, descansaban en su área, intentaban coger comida fuera de la jaula, sin mucho ánimo de contactar con las personas. Pero al menos nos dejaron disfrutar de sus travesuras y ámbito natural.
This flower surprised my partner 
A keeper at the place explained to us that it's the 'cannonball tree.' He told us that its uncommon flower gives off a sweet scent that attracts many bees, which help with its pollination. Later, round, bullet-shaped fruits grow.

This next area is designed to get closer to some animals. Such is the case of the Morrocoy turtle, a terrestrial species native to savannas and forests, very gentle and friendly with the public.
There was also a small crocodile, which you could take photos with and touch. As a safety measure, its mouth was tied shut.

A little further on, the camel came up to the fence seeking interaction with us, and we gave it some small leaves. Camels always stand out for their distinctive hump, formed by an accumulation of fatty tissue.
The center's staff describe it as a super affectionate and sociable animal—to the point where you can touch it, feed it, and observe it very closely.

It's one of the main attractions due to its impressive size, exotic nature, and curious behavior. There's so much wildlife and so many new things that there isn't enough time to enjoy them all calmly. Unfortunately, the sun was too strong, it was very hot, and time passed quite quickly.
El último animal que vi en el recorrido
fue el hipopótamo que suele estar en un estante, gran parte del día y sumergido en el agua; pero tuve la suerte apreciarlo mientras comía.Es una de las grandes atracciones por su tamaño impresionante, exótico y su comportamiento curioso. Hay tanta fauna y novedades que no hay tiempo para disfrutarlos todos con calma, por desgracia había demasiado sol, mucha calor y el tiempo pasó bastante rápido.
