Guided by a man driving a traditional tuk-tuk (there are two types of tuk-tuks in Siem Reap), this was basically my journey to explore the customs and culture of Siem Reap, including riding a traditional tuk-tuk. It was a coincidence that I got this opportunity, although compared to modern tuk-tuks the price is much cheaper. But, the experience was much more interesting.
I was taken to Bayon Temple to see the grandeur of this temple with hundreds of Buddha faces inside, including on the wall carvings right above the temple. I think this is one of the differences between Bayon Temple and other temples because all the Buddha faces are clearly recorded and carved on the top of the temple.
Can you see the remaining glory of a temple in the first photo of this blog? That's right, this is a grand temple that existed and was built during the reign of Jayavarman VII. The temple that became a symbol of power at that time, and the only temple dedicated to Buddha.
There are 216 Buddha faces in this temple, they say it is a real manifestation of the face of King Jayavarman VII. Very unique, as if this temple has its own magic compared to other temples. One of the great wonders in the Angkor Thom area.
Bayon Temple is a silent witness to many changes after King Jayawarman VII died. One of them is the return of Hinduism and it changed back into a Buddhist temple. For more details about the history of this temple, you can go directly to the related website. But here, I want to tell you a lot about my experience about how I was so amazed by this temple.
Around the yard there are many stone ruins from parts of the temple that may be under revitalization because this temple was affected by a fairly large earthquake in the past. Even so, the initial foundation and main part of the temple are still very clearly visible.
Bayon Temple is still very actively used for worship for Buddhists, not just about historical buildings. I had time to photograph some detailed parts of the Bayon Temple such as the carvings on the walls which turned out to have a storyline or about Buddhist teachings. For example, such as the incarnation of Vishnu, Jayawarman's army for religious rituals or prayers, gods and goddesses, yoginis and many more that were explained a little by our guide.
Bayon temple is also equipped with an entrance and exit that has four sides, but to enter only from the east side is allowed. There are repairs being carried out but will not interfere with some important places that must be seen. Come in the morning or evening because you can see the sunrise or sunset, because here can also be the beginning or end when visiting the Angkor area.
Call me Isdarmady, sometimes Mady, Putra or anything you want. I have a pretty long name but call me very nicely. There are many things I like, especially hydroponics and coffee, sometimes I also like traveling and eating whatever I want. Life should be like that, there must be many things you like so you can live well. Of course, what you want is a dream, so, when you have a dream then what you have to do is to achieve that dream, don't just let it be a dream.
There are many things I tell on my Blog, I hope you like it. Never hesitate to leave a comment, because your comments mean so much to keep me moving forward.
