Sandon BC located in the Slocan Valley
This is an old Silver mining town that still has lot's of old buildings and a functioning hydro station that is the oldest one still running in western Canada.
At one point in the late 1800's this place was happening with breweries, hotels, churches and many Brothels!!
It's free to walk around. There's a gift shop and a museum to check out as well.
Sadly in the early 1900's the town suffered a major fire and flooding that destroyed most of the buildings. There's a few still standing.
Let's take a look at some.
With a population of over 5,000 at it's peak the town now has only 30 living here at the time I visited in 2021.
Another interesting thing in Sandon is all the buses and trains. Now there was a railway that ran through Sandon to Kaslo BC but the ones here have been brought in from somewhere else. Still pretty cool to check out. The Trolly buses are from Vancouver BC.
Overall pretty neat place to visit. Spent a couple hours here. They also offer camping with amenities. Short drive from Nelson BC. Located in the West Kootenay of Southern British Columbia Canada.
Hope you enjoyed the Tour of Sandon BC. :)
