Hello everyone. Today I have been choosing photos given to me by my sister-in-law, to share with you my impressions of the beautiful city Opatija that brings back my childhood memories. Opatija is called the Queen of the Adriatic. And it is not a queen for no reason.
It has been many years since my last visit to this city. I was still a child then but the city is so authentic that it has remained the same.
When you come to this city, you will feel the aristocratic spirit and the presence of counts and kings who used to stay here in the past. The houses, hotels, and villas are of the Habsburg urban spirit. There is something special in walking down the streets here, something "noble".
Opatija is a very old city, the oldest in Croatia and one of the oldest in the world. It is a very attractive tourist destination. When I was a child, I was not interested in cultural monuments but there are many of them in this city. Now I enjoy watching them.🙂
With its stunning architecture, Opatija inspires film directors to choose this place for making films and series. And here you really feel like in a movie.
The symbol of this city is a statue of a girl with a seagull in her hand (Maiden with the seagull).
This is a special place. The statue was erected in honor of the count who tragically lost his life to watch over his soul. The statue was destroyed by the sea over time, so it has been restored, but I think the original is kept in a museum. My father would know the story about it. Unfortunately, I don't remember it but I remember how impressive the statue is.
And the beautiful views of the Adriatic Sea always leave you breathless because it is not just a matter of beauty. It is a scent that stays there forever, in the memories, and is the same wherever you are in Croatia.
Even now I can feel that scent as I write looking at these beautiful photos.
Thank you very much for reading.
The images and writing are original and mine.
Greetings!
Jelena
