Happy to greet you all again through Worldmappin! Today I want to share a bit about my experience and first impressions of visiting one of the Catholic churches that most caught my attention, even before my trip to Rome. It's the Church of Sant'Agnese in Agone, located specifically in Piazza Navona, a place where art and history are palpable. Many things happened here during the Roman Empire, and today they are simply tourist attractions for those visiting the city. I think few are truly interested in learning about the origins of these spaces that overflow with both sorrow and sanctity.

¡Feliz de saludarlos nuevamente a través de Worldmappin!. Hoy quiero compartir un poco de lo que fue mi experiencia y mi primera impresión al visitar una de los templos católicos que más me llamaba la atención, incluso antes de mi viaje a Roma. Se trata de la Iglesia de Santa Inés en Agonía, ubicada específicamente el la Plaza Navona, un lugar donde se puede respirar el arte y la historia en el ambiente, y es que aquí sucedieron muchas cosas en épocas del Imperio Romano, y hoy simplemente son lugares turísticos para quienes visitan la ciudad, y creo que pocos se interesan realmente por conocer los orígenes de estos espacios que desbordan dolor y santidad en el mundo.
From the moment you enter the church, you're struck by its grandeur and powerful energy. A temple embodying all the characteristics that define Baroque art, filled with angels, sculptures, elegance, and the vibrant colors of stone. I was truly impressed, as the place appears immense from the outside, but in reality, the altar area and the space for parishioners are quite small. You can explore it all in a short time, which makes me realize there's so much more to discover, though I didn't have the time on this trip. In that historic place, I simply prayed, took some photos while listening to a bit of the story of Saint Agnes, and now that I think about it, I recorded some video clips that would have been great to include in this post 😅 but I'll probably share them later...
Desde que entras a la Iglesia te das cuenta de su imponencia y gran energía. Un templo con todas las características que enaltecen el arte barroco, lleno de ángeles, esculturas, elegancia y colores piedra. Me impresioné mucho, ya que cuando ves el lugar desde afuera luce inmenso, pero en realidad, la zona del altar y para los feligreses es pequeña, se puede recorrer en poco tiempo, lo que me hace saber que hay mucho más por explorar en el lugar, aunque no tuve el tiempo para hacerlo en este viaje. En ese histórico lugar solo me dispuse a orar, tomar unas fotografías mientras escuchaba un poco de la historia de Santa Inés y ahora que recuerdo a grabar unos extractos de video que habría sido genial incluir en este post 😅 pero que seguramente lo comparta más adelante...
The story of Saint Agnes has always deeply impressed me. She was a martyr, killed at the age of 13, who refused to lose her virginity, which she offered to God. For this reason, she is the patron saint of chastity and brides, and her feast day is celebrated every January 21st. This church was built on the exact spot where she was murdered, and although her remains rest in the Church of Saint Agnes Outside the Walls, it is here in Saint Agnes of the Agony that her skull, the most important relic, is kept. I understand it is under the altar, although during my visit I didn't get to explore all the more exclusive areas of the church. Even so, the entire church conveys the sorrow and sanctity of Rome in the early centuries AD, albeit with the elegance of Baroque art.
La historia de Santa Inés siempre me impresionó mucho, ella fue una mártir asesinada a los 13 años, y siempre se negó a perder su virginidad, la cual ofreció a Dios, por eso es patrona de la castidad y de las novias, y se celebra cada 21 de Enero. Esta iglesia se construyó exactamente sobre el lugar donde fue asesinada, y aunque sus restos reposan en la Iglesia de Santa Inés de Extramuros, aquí en Santa Inés de Agonía es donde se encuentra su cráneo, la reliquia más importante. Tengo entendido que está bajo el altar, aunque en mi visita no llegué a recorrer todas las zonas más exclusivas de la iglesia. Aún así, todo el templo transmite el dolor y la santidad de la Roma de los primeros siglos después de Cristo, aunque con la elegancia del arte barroco.
On my musical trip to Rome, I discovered many special places, some of which I explored thoroughly. However, I only briefly visited most of them, given my limited time and the city's rich history, which offered so much to tourists. As small as the Church of Sant'Agnese in Agone seemed to me, it's a place I'd love to return to and appreciate the relics. Piazza Navona is also very special, and as I mentioned in a previous post, there's a museum with many ruins beneath it. I'm struck by how every corner of Rome exudes the passion and joy that tourists feel as they walk its streets and admire its monuments. At the same time, I'm amazed at how many of these places are steeped in suffering, having been sites where so many people died in the past, many in the name of God and justice. I have much more to share about my adventures in Rome; I'm sure we'll see each other here on Worldpappin soon 🙏
En mi viaje musical a Roma conocí muchos lugares especiales, los cuales recorrí a plenitud, pero muchos otros, y me atrevo a decir que la gran mayoría solo visité por encima, ya que tenía poco tiempo y una ciudad histórica que ofrecía mucho para nosotros los turistas. Por más pequeño que me ha parecido la Iglesia de Santa Inés en Agonía, es un lugar al cual me gustaría volver y poder apreciar las reliquias, además, toda la Plaza Navona es muy especial, y como les mencioné en un anterior post, debajo de ella también hay un museo con muchas ruinas. Me impresiona como cada rincón romano tiene una cara de pasión y alegría que desbordamos los turistas al caminar sus calles y sus monumentos, y a la vez, como la mayoría de estos lugares están llenos de sufrimiento y que fueron espacios donde murió tanta gente en el pasado, muchos de ellos en nombre de Dios y de la justicia... Tengo mucho más sobre mis aventuras en Roma, seguramente nos veremos aquí en Worldpappin pronto 🙏
