The northern end of the valley of Montalbán, is marked by a mountain of forests that from a distance seem almost blue and whose particular rounded shape at the top can be seen from every corner of the valley. Both the mountain itself and the hills adjacent to it are called “El Marquero” and can be reached by leaving the town of Montalbán and following a dirt road with a distance of about 4 kilometers until you start the ascent through the hills... This publication contains photographs that I took on my last bike ride of 2024 during the morning of December 30, towards this “photographically charming” place...
El extremo norte del valle de Montalbán, está marcado por una montaña de bosques que a la distancia parecen casi azules y cuya particular forma redondeada en la cúspide se puede apreciar desde todos los rincones del valle. Tanto la montaña en sí como las colinas adyacentes a esta, tienen por nombre "El Marquero" y se puede llegar a ellas saliendo del casco urbano de Montalbán y siguiendo un camino de tierra con un recorrido de unos 4 kilómetros hasta comenzar el ascenso por las colinas... Esta publicación contiene fotografías que hice en mi último paseo en bicicleta del 2024 durante la mañana del día 30 de Diciembre hacia ese lugar "fotográficamente encantador"...
The flat stretch of the road, which runs along the valley in a northerly direction, has a beautiful landscape, in which nature and the rural combine to offer truly bucolic views... Pastures, farmland, deciduous forests and mountains make for postcards bathed in morning light and a pristine blue sky becomes the ideal addition to delight a guy with a camera in hand. Although I took some pictures of farm animals and roads, it was very difficult for me to refrain from continuously photographing the landscape around me keeping almost always the focal length of my lens at 18 mm in order to capture as much as possible on the same photographic plane...
El tramo plano del camino, el cual recorre el valle en dirección norte, tiene un paisaje hermoso, en el cual la naturaleza y lo rural se combinan para ofrecer vistas realmente bucólicas... Los pastizales, las tierras de cultivo, los bosques caducifólios y las montañas fabrican postales bañadas por las luz de la mañana y un cielo de un azul prístino se convierte en el agregado ideal para hacer las delicias de un tipo con una cámara en la mano. Aunque hice algunas fotos de animales de granja y de los caminos, me fue muy difícil abstenerme de fotografiar continuamente el paisaje a mi alrededor manteniendo casi siempre la distancia focal de mi lente en 18 mm para así aprovechar de capturar todo lo posible en un mismo plano fotográfico...
Shortly before starting to ascend the hills, the road becomes quite narrow and is no longer suitable for the transit of four-wheeled vehicles... There are also wetlands and small lagoons whose water reserves are used by farmers to grow corn even at the beginning of the dry season, as is the case now... Neither me nor my old bike are good at climbing mountain roads, so what we did was to walk side by side to help each other... hahaha :)... Gosh, that made me realize how rusty I am!... But anyway, we kept going and managed to climb high enough in the hills to observe the valley from viewpoints where I managed to get some good pictures...
Poco antes de comenzar a ascender a las colinas, el camino se hace bastante angosto y deja de ser propicio para el paso de vehículos de cuatro ruedas... También hay humedales y pequeñas lagunas cuyas reservas de agua son aprovechadas por los campesinos para cultivar maíz incluso en pleno inicio de la época de sequía como es el caso ahora... Ni yo, ni mi vieja bicicleta somos buenos ascendiendo por caminos de montaña, así que lo que hicimos fue caminar uno junto al otro para ayudarnos... hahaha :)... Cielos, ¡eso me hizo comprender cuan oxidado estoy!... Pero sea como sea, seguimos adelante y logramos ascender lo suficiente en las colinas para observar el valle desde miradores en donde logré obtener buenas fotografías...
The peak of “El Marquero” is still far from my reach as a hiker I guess. To get to that mountain full of forest, which looks blue from a distance, implies an ascent of about four kilometers more from the point where I arrived this time. However, having wandered these trails in my teen years, I can be sure that the slope of the path to the top is not too steep and this allows me to hope that I can make the trek sometime in 2025, a year during which I plan to improve my physical condition... :)
La cumbre del "El Marquero" aún está lejos de mi alcance como caminante supongo. Pues llegar hasta esa montaña repleta de bosque la cual parece azul desde la distancia, implica un recorrido en ascenso de unos cuatro kilómetros más a partir del punto hasta donde llegué esta vez. Sin embargo, el hecho de haber deambulado por estos caminos en mi adolescencia, me permite asegurar que la pendiente del camino hasta la cumbre no es demasiado inclinada y esto me permite tener la esperanza de poder hacer el recorrido en algún momento del 2025, año durante el cual planeo mejorar mi condición física... ;)
On the way back to town, I had the opportunity to take some alternative pictures of animals... I confess that I felt the need to spend more time surrounded by that country and natural atmosphere which I like so much... Something difficult to do these tours is to go back to the streets of the town with its pavements and its noises. But I guess that makes the time during which I travel these rural and mountain roads, even more valuable... I'll be back soon, I hope, and maybe I'll do it with enough courage and strength to get closer to the top of “El Marquero”...
De regreso al pueblo, tuve la oportunidad de hacer algunas fotos alternativas de animales... Confieso que sentí la necesidad de estar más tiempo rodeado por esa atmósfera campestre y natural la cual tanto me gusta... Algo difícil de hacer estos recorridos es regresar a las calles del pueblo son su pavimentos y sus ruidos. Pero supongo que eso hace que el tiempo durante el cual recorro estos caminos rurales y de montaña, se aún mucho más valioso... Regresaré pronto, eso espero, y quizás lo haga con el suficiente ánimo y fuerza para llegar más cerca de la cúspide de "El Marquero"...

ADDITIONAL TECHNICAL NOTE: Photographs captured with my Nikon D7000 DSLR camera in RAW format, then processed in Adobe Camera RAW for adjustments regarding light, sharpening, contrast and depth... They were then exported to JGP format on which minor modifications such as straightening and adding watermarks were carried out using PhotoScape 3.6.3.
NOTA TÉCNICA ADICIONAL: Fotografias capturadas con mi cámara DSLR Nikon D7000 en formato RAW, procesadas posteriormente en Adobe Camera RAW para ajustes relativos a luz, afilado, contraste y profundidad... Luego fueron exportadas a formato JGP sobre el cual se llevaron a cabo modificaciones menores como enderezado y agregado de marcas de agua usando PhotoScape 3.6.3.
