Hey hey worldmappin fam! Wassup everyone?! Ayyy I’m back again to tell you all about our hang out yesterday here in Cagayan de Oro City! You know me i can’t stop checking out cool spots around CDO, and this time we went to the main plaza area where all the popular places are at!
Okay so like we left home around late afternoon ‘cause we wanted to see both the sunset and the lights when it gets dark. First thing we saw was that big church everyone posts about the one with dark wood and that nice roof shape. So many people were there already!
Families taking pics couples walking together vendors selling balloons everywhere pink ones red ones even those shiny ones that glint when the sun hits them. The sky was half blue half gray with a bit of orange peeking through clouds looked so nice! We did not go inside this time but just being there with all the people around felt so good that’s what makes CDO feel like home you know?!
We walked a little bit more and there it was THE “Cagayan de Oro City of Golden Friendship” sign! Super hard to miss haha. There was a line of people waiting to take photos with it we waited like 10 mins but it was worth it! While waiting we saw kids running around splashing near the fountain (their parents were trying to stop them but laughing too so relatable!) and some teens doing TikTok dances to some upbeat song playing nearby. The sign looks so cool big letters and “Oro” is that golden color which totally matches our city name. Makes me proud every single time i see it!
Then when it got dark WHOA! All the trees around the plaza lit up! There were colorful string lights hanging from the branches and when they turned on it was like being in a fairy tale or something. Some lights were shiny and caught whatever light was left so everything was sparkling. We went to the bigger fountain area and it was lit up with blue and white lights that bounced off the water as it shot up. You could hear the water splashing plus people talking and laughing messy but in the best way possible! We grabbed some isaw and fishballs from a nearby stall (extra vinegar pls!) and just sat on a bench to watch everything.
You know what’s the best part about going out here in CDO? does not matter if you are with friends, family or even alone you always feel welcome. Everyone’s smiling, they will help you if you ask where to go, and you can really feel that “friendship” thing our city is known for. We stayed till almost 9pm just walking around, looking at lights, and even joined some people who were singing together near the fountain!
Already planning to go back maybe on a weekend when there’s more stuff going on? Or if there’s a concert there we gotta check it out. Either way I know it will be just as fun as yesterday!
