Hello hivers! Have a great day! Hope you are all doing fine .
Just sharing the pride tourist spot of the City of Lapu-Lapu, called "Mactan Shrine ".
Last Sunday, April 19,2026 , I went to Mactan Shrine to watch some activities prior to the annual reenactment of the historic event called " The Battle of Mactan " which will be reenacted on April 27. This commemorates the bloody battle between Magellan's people and Lapu-Lapu tribe.
There are activities at the Shrine like live concert , arm wrestling etc. and some foods and drinks being served .
During ancient time , the site before was a peaceful shore were natives normally live in which fishing was their primary livelihood.
Everytime I visited the shrine I imagine the shout and cry of the natives during the attacks of Magellan's people in which some natives' houses were burned. Because of this Magellan's assault , Lapu-Lapu's men were very angry and fiercely confronted and assaulting Magellan's people with their bolos and arrows . It was a bloody unforgettable battle were dead bodies laid on the shore.
It was unfortunate for Ferdinand Magellan who was killed on that battle. He was hit to his leg with poisoned arrow from the native then Lapu-Lapu ran towards him and hit Magellan's nick with a sharp bolo .
When Magellan was killed ,his people were back down for they were frightened by the brave natives .
This was the first Filipino victory against the foreign invaders .
In this site , Magellan was killed by gallant Datu Lapu-Lapu.
Every April 27 , the annual reenactment of the Battle of Mactan is highly anticipated. It is witness by tourists and and residents to watch the reenactment . Famous personalities were invited to act as Magellan and Lapu-Lapu and Reyna Bulakna . People are excited to watch even in the intense heat of the sun just to watch the artists .
Everyone is open to watch .
Till my next blog . Thanks for taking your time reading it.
