Hello friends, how are you? Hopefully everyone is healthy and happy. Welcome back with my post. In this post I want to invite and share information about a historical heritage in our country, Indonesia, namely a temple in the city of Yogyakarta. The temple I visited was not a famous temple like Borobudur Temple, Prambanan Temple or Kalasan Temple. The temple I visited was Sambisari Temple.
The name Sambisari Temple is taken from the name of the hamlet where the temple was discovered in 1966, namely Sambisari Hamlet, Purwomartani Village, Kalasari District, Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. According to the story, Sambisari Temple was discovered by a farmer while cultivating his land. The farmer accidentally hit or hit a carved stone which, after being examined, was the ruins of a temple. In the end, these findings were followed up by the National Institute of Antiquities and it turned out that under the land a temple was found. The temple has been buried by volcanic material from Mount Merapi as deep as 6.5 meters. Until now, Sambisari Temple is a protected cultural heritage site.
Sambisari Temple is a Hindu temple built around the 9th century by King Rakai Garung from the Ancient Mataram kingdom from the Sanjaya Dynasty around 812-838 AD. Sambisari Temple is square with dimensions of 13.65 X 13.65 meters with a height of 7.5 meters. The temple yard complex is around 50 meters X 48 meters. Below are some photos I took with my cellphone camera of Sambisari Temple and its surroundings.
