It's our first day in Singapore, our first spot of the visit was the Merlion, of course! Then next was the DNA-like structure called Helix Bridge!
But it takes a few walks going there from the Merlion, still it was not that far though but because it was already almost noontime, the sun was shining brightly. Thankfully, we were ready with our umbrellas!
While walking and following the map, we passed by this public sculpture art along the bay called Makan Angin by Lim Soo Ngee. I had to look it up on Google again and found out that this means eating wind, it's made of bronze and is just located along the Esplanade by the Theatres on the Bay. It's shaded here so passing by, we stopped to appreciate the beauty of the view too!
Then we passed by the Makansutra Gluttons Bay, we really thought we could have lunch here but it turned out that this place is empty. I guess they will open at a specific time but during the orientation that was set up a few days before the trip, this should be opened at lunch.
I was concerned with my parents though but they said they were fine as they ate a lot during the breakfast buffet! Thank goodness! We also made sure we have water with us so we won't be dehydrated during this walking tour!
Unfortunately, we have to take the route to the highway because the Float at the Marina Grandstand was closed. Some bikers also had to turn around and take a different route. It was all fine though, we had to walk under the sun but it was alright!
Finally, after walking Raffles Avenue, we reached the Youth Olympic Park and we stayed in the park for a few minutes before proceeding to the bridge. The view here was really nice though with the green leaves against the tall Marina Bay Sands and the Helix Bridge at the back!
We stopped for water and I gave my little one snacks because it was already 11 AM and couldn't find any restaurants around. It's also windy here so we relaxed a bit before we continued!
We were at the entrance of the Helix bridge and took photos of course! There were several other tourists also taking photos, we were even asked to take photos of some tourists and we happily did the honor!
This spot right here at this corner is definitely a great one for taking a panoramic view of the bridge plus the Marina Bay Sands and the Science and Art Museum! If we had a wider lens, we could fit the wider view with the grandstand and perhaps other skyscrapers at the back!
Looking at this 280m-long bridge, I was greatly amazed by its architectural design. It is said to be the world’s first curved double-helix bridge and provides pedestrians a direct connection between Marina Centre, the waterfront area, and the Marina Bay Sands® integrated resort. It has been built with a walkway encircled by opposing double helix structures of stainless steel inspired by the human DNA.
It would have been nice if we were able to get back here at night but there was no other chance though because the rest of the days were set to other different places it would have been nice if we tried going back. Anyway, we saw its light lit up when we were at the top of the Marina Bay Sands Skypark viewing deck.
There are four viewing pods extending out over the water, allowing tourists a 360-degree view of the skyline. The images here below of the Science and Art Museum were taken from one of the pods.
It's quite amazing to see these structures which can't be found in any other part of the world but in Singapore alone. I am grateful for this opportunity indeed that was given to us to be able to see them in person together with my parents! According to my parents, this was something that they never imagined to happen in their life so visiting Singapore was a blessing to them!
If you are wondering why there's a sunburst already on these photos, I would like to clarify that my husband had to go back during the afternoon to get some nice shots of the Helix bridge and the sunset. This was when we visited the Skypark on our third day in the country.
If you plan on visiting Helix Bridge, I highly recommend you go here by the afternoon around four so you can take photos of the bridge while at sunset for the golden hour experience and then go around the area, you can go check out the Science and Art Museum and then come back when it's already dark for the night view! I bet it would also be nice here because they had installed lights in and out of the bridge to make it look really crazy beautiful in the evening!
