I have been walking around my neightborhood for a long time, but there are still places nearby that I have not visited and fully explored.
The marina in Gouves, right on the northern coast of my island, Crete - is one of those places.
This beautiful, seaside village is well known for its relaxed atmosphere, long beachfront, traditional tavernas, and easy access to many attractions. It has Pano (Upper Side) and Kato (Seafront side) Gouves, which is a more touristic places. Here, visitors can enjoy both tranquility and convenience, as it is also full of tavernas, restaurants, hotels, organized beaches and also shops.
In this post, we will explore its small but really nice and well taken care - Marina port.
The port was constructed in 2023, as the sign suggests and below you will find the website with more information.

Gouves Port is a small harbor mainly used by local fishermen, small boats and sailing boats. Unlike the large commercial ports found in bigger cities, this harbor keeps a calm and authentic character. Here, you can watch fishing boats gently moving with the waves, see the two light houses, enjoy the sea breeze, come here for a lovely sunset spot (with some cat company sometimes) or simply sit nearby and admire the endless blue of the Cretan Sea.
The atmosphere changes throughout the day. In the morning, the area feels peaceful and fresh, while during sunset the harbor becomes especially beautiful as the golden light reflects on the water and the boats.
The promenade around the port is ideal for a relaxing walk, photography, or simply enjoying a quiet moment away from crowded tourist areas.
Right next to the port, there are beach volley spots, sun loungers and beach chairs, as well as a sandy beach
If you are lucky, you may find other visitors at the place too!
I found a super cute cat there, I think he was trying to fish - but I had no treats so he did not come near me :(
He is super cute though, right?
At the port, there are two lighthouses, one black and white and one red and white.
They are the stars of the port, and I will try to take nights photo too!
Here, you see the view from the end of the port .. and to the other smaller port that you will see right after the video
Right a few meters away, you will see another small beach, that is never windy.
It is next to a hotel, and there are just a couple of little boats parked there.
For content creators and photographers, this little harbor offers wonderful opportunities for authentic seaside shots, especially during golden hour.
The day I visited, the atmosphere was a bit dusty, so it created a creamy sunset (If I may say that)
As I was walking home, I could not help taking a few last shots
(I wish they had their heads leaned together)
And one of the last images was this one.
Family moments, at the sunset.
I always smile when I see that.. I hope I dont look creepy :)
Did you like my little port?
