It is a point of meeting for the locals; it is a point of walking and relaxing, of cycling and an area where you can easily take your family out or even your dog out for a walk.
The locals call it "Karavolas Park" and apart from all the above there is more that you can do during your visit!
Let's check out some statues ..
This sculpture was made by Alessio Ranaldi for the 5th International Sculpture Symposium organized by Heraklion Municipality. Its title is 'Plastic Venus di Milo' and when it comes to art, I believe it is all about how you perceive something and what sentiments it leaves for you to 'inhale'
Here more sculptures & art inspired by Venus of Milo
This sculpture is titled "Timespace", and represents a solar clock created by artist Manolis Charkoutsis. It has 2 parts, one complementing each other.

This statue is created by Mrs Beata Rostas from Hungary.
The subject of the Symposium was by a Seferis' Poem "On the stone of patience we wait for the miracle ..."
This is one of my favorites ..
Created by Giorgos Chouliaras; at the bottom you will see the inscription "Στην πέτρα της υπομονής, προσμένουμε το θάμα ... " which means ""On the stone of patience we wait for the miracle ..." by Seferis' poem.
Art is everywhere around here
As we walk by, we see a small wooden building with art surrounding it.
It is a project created by an Heraklion Team called 'Ζω - Δρω' (I live- I act) and it is a library where anybody can borrow or lend a book! We will bring more books here soon!
And outside of it, a handmade boat, created by one of our city's artists - Mr Manolis!
Here is his instagram profile check it out
There is a beautiful fountain, that shows the most amazing colors at night - and you can make tons of photos especially during sunset :) (Check for the cloudy ones)

To conclude ..
You can see a number of statues, you can admire very cool street art, you can skate, you can take some really cool photos by the fountain, you can fish and .. you can even borrow/lend books at the new open-air library!

If not to be together; which paradise did I endure such hell for?

The story begins during the previous century ... In the 1920s, many refugees from Minor Asia arrived in Heraklion, and they firstly inhabited the seaside area at the Western part of the city. They slowly built their houses there and tried to adjust to their new country. At some point, an inhabitant named Mr Pavlos created a Tavern. Mr Pavlos' nickname was "Karavolas", which means 'snail' in Minor Asian or 'chochlios' in the Cretan dialect. And that's how the name prevailed up to today..
