Recently, I was riding a bicycle next to what seemed to me to be a bridge that I saw in Warsaw for the first time and which delighted me. It is not even a bridge, but a viaduct that was created in the neo-renaissance style. There are many sculptures on the bridge, incl. a woman resembling a mermaid, the face of a man with a very long beard (you can see the fashion for such beards comes back from time to time;)), laurel wreaths, or a dragon. The bridge is sand-colored and every carving on the bridge is very detailed.
Niedawno przejeżdżałam na rowerze obok jak mi się wydawało mostu, który widziałam w Warszawie pierwszy raz i który mnie zachwycił. To nawet nie most, a wiadukt, który został stworzony w stylu neorenesansowym. Na moście znajduje się sporo rzeźb, m.in. kobieta przypominająca syrenę, twarz mężczyzny z bardzo długą brodą (widać moda na takie brody co jakiś czas powraca ;)), wieńce laurowe, czy smok. Most ma kolor piaskowy i każde rzeźbienie na moście jest bardzo szczegółowe.
The Stanisław Markiewicz Viaduct is a road viaduct in the neo-Renaissance style, located along and over Karowa street in Warsaw. The design of the structure was made by Karol Sommer, an engineer, Stefan Szyller, the architect, and Jan Woydyga designed the sculptural decor. It was built in the years 1902–1905. The viaduct is decorated with sculptures by Jan Woydyga. Visitors to Powisle watch the beautiful young Mermaid. In the central part of the viaduct there is a sculptural composition: a woman in a crown of city walls symbolizes Warsaw, in one hand she holds a book, in the other - the attributes of science and art. Next to it sits a mustachioed strongman with a gear and a sword - this is an allegory of work. Above them, on a stone column decorated with a wreath - a sign of glory - a candle symbolizes education. A scary looking man with a wavy wet beard and hair is Vistula.

Wiadukt im. Stanisława Markiewicza to wiadukt drogowy w stylu neorenesansowym, znajdujący się w ciągu i nad ul. Karową w Warszawie. Projekt konstrukcji wykonał inż. Karol Sommer, architektury Stefan Szyller, a Jan Woydyga zaprojektował wystrój rzeźbiarski. Zbudowany został w latach 1902–1905. Wiadukt zdobią kompozycje rzeźb Jana Woydygi. Zjeżdżający na Powiśle oglądają piękną młodą Syrenę. W centralnej części wiaduktu umieszczono kompozycję rzeźbiarską: kobieta w koronie z miejskich murów symbolizuje Warszawę, w jednej dłoni trzyma księgę, w drugiej – atrybuty nauki i sztuki. Obok siedzi wąsaty siłacz z kołem zębatym i mieczem – to alegoria pracy. Nad nimi, na kamiennej kolumnie ozdobionej wieńcem – oznaką chwały – płonie znicz symbolizujący oświatę. Groźnie wyglądający mężczyzna z falującą mokrą brodą i włosami to Wisła.

This fountain in the photo above looks cool with an animal resembling a dragon with a long fin, and the water bowl is built in the shape of a huge shell. This is a very creative element of the bridge. When I think about various modern bridges or viaducts, on which there are few such detailed, fanciful sculptures, I am glad that there are still buildings from the past, thanks to which we can see interesting ideas of creative artists.
Fajnie wygląda ta fontanna na zdjęciu powyżej ze zwierzęciem przypominającym smoka z długą płetwą, a miska na wodę zbudowana jest w kształcie ogromnej muszli. To bardzo kreatywny element mostu. Gdy myślę o tym różnych nowoczesnych mostach, czy wiaduktach, na których mało jest takich szczegółowych, fantazyjnych rzeźb to cieszę się, ze są jeszcze budowle z przeszłości, dzięki którym możemy zobaczyć ciekawe pomysły kreatywnych artystów.
I also like the lanterns on the bridge, mounted on romantic-looking pieces curving at the ends.
Podobają mi się też latarnie na moście, zamontowane na romantycznie wyglądających elementach, zawijających się na końcach.
Even when walking under the bridge, we can admire beautifully carved striped patterns and wreaths.
Nawet przechodząc pod mostem możemy podziwiać pięknie wyrzeźbione pasiaste wzory i wieńce.
And also vintage street lamps that look like the ones we know from old movies from 100 years ago.
A także zabytkowe uliczne lampy wyglądające jak te, które znamy ze starych filmów sprzed 100 lat.
See how wonderful the stone balustrades look with lots of elegant decorations, including circles with bows.
Zobaczcie jak cudownie wyglądają kamienne balustrady, z mnóstwem eleganckich zdobień, m,in. kołami z kokardami.
The road under the bridge is also historic. We will not find modern asphalt or other road building materials that we associate with modernity, only ancient stone pavement. It would still be fine if a horse-drawn carriage passed there and I would feel as if I had moved back 100 years in time, although the historic viaduct and cobblestone pavement also allow it, in my imagination.
Droga pod mostem również jest zabytkowa. Nie znajdziemy tam nowoczesnego asfaltu, czy innego drogowego budulca, który kojarzymy ze współczesnością, tylko starodawny kamienny bruk. Jeszcze pasowałoby, gdyby przejechał tam powóz konny i już zupełnie bym się czuła, jakby przeniosła się w czasie o 100 lat, chociaż zabytkowy wiadukt i brukowana nawierzchnia również na to pozwalają, w wyobraźni.
