We continued to Kalvária Banská Štiavnica, after our first trip to Svätý Anton Manor house.
Kalvária Banská Štiavnica is the most beautiful Baroque calvaries in Europe with its breathtaking panoramic views.
According to Wikipedia: The Calvary complex consists of 24 sacred buildings, including 17 chapels, three churches, and the Holy Sepulchre. These structures beautifully depict the Passion of Christ and the Seven Sorrows of the Virgin Mary, allowing visitors to reflect on the story through stunning paintings, sculptures, and architectural details.
The Calvary of Banská Štiavnica is a set of twenty-four separate sacral buildings, of which seventeen chapels, representing scenes from the crucifixion of Jesus and the seven sorrows of the Virgin Mary, three churches, the "Ecce homo" station and the Holy Sepulchre, located on the Scharffenberg Hill (Sharp Hill) in Banská Štiavnica. The complex was built in the years 1744 – 1751 in the Baroque style and its initiator was the Jesuit František Perger.
In December 1993 the city was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
HIKING TIME!
As we began our journey going up the hill, the weather was cold and windy and climbing was more challenging. I'm thin and I feel the wind will blow me away. I was a little nervous because Aya was still small at that time, and the path was steep. Aya is so excited because she was full of energy. She decided to turn our hike into a race!
Of course I’m a mom. I always call her name to please be careful and we can reach the top without any race. "Aya, slow down! It’s dangerous!” Just walk carefully and enjoy the view. But the kids have endless energy, so wherever we go parents should prepare too.
Hiking was a bit tiring but the amazing surroundings are so stunning. We enjoy the breath taking scenery.
Place of Faith and Reflection
The view was absolutely breathtaking when we reached the top. I can't explain how I felt when I saw the view. I always say Oh my God, wow and so amazing. The breathtaking scenery is so perfect. We saw mountains from the distance, fresh air, views of the towns, quiet place. We found peace in Kalvaria. A picture-perfect landscape, it was all worth it.
It was a gem, full of history, stoned painting that has its own story, and faith going there. We appreciate the beauty of it. We make a stop in every chapel and make a short prayer. It's a perfect place for reflection because of its peaceful surroundings. We appreciate the moment when we are on the hill.
Unforgettable Experience
It's our family bonding in one of the gems of Slovakia, the Kalvária Banská Štiavnica. We have adventure from our hiring and a reflection too. Taking photos and videos so we can keep it as remembrance. made it all worth it.
I would Absolutely recommend the place for everyone to visit. Spring and Autumn are the best times to visit. If you have your little ones’ hold thier hands if they love running like Aya! 😊 Don't get in a rush going up, enjoy the stunning view. Explore each chapel and the artwork, for sure you will appreciate it too. And don't forget your camera to capture beautiful views.
