Happy Wednesday Hivers!
Ormoc City is one of the largest cities in the province of Leyte. One of the things the city is known for is its sweet pineapples. There are large pineapple plantations in the area, which is why pineapples have become one of the city’s proudest products. In fact, this is also one of the highlights celebrated during their festival.
Ormoc City is quite far from our house, but transportation is not really a problem even if you do not have your own vehicle because there are many buses and vans traveling from our place to Ormoc. The estimated travel time is around two and a half hours, so the trip really takes some time. Still, the journey becomes worth it once you get to see the beauty and relaxing atmosphere of the city. Come and join me as I give you a virtual tour around Ormoc City!
I arrived in Ormoc City almost around lunchtime, so I decided to eat first before strolling around the city. While having lunch at Chowking, I noticed an old church located just across the street. After finishing my meal, I went there to visit the church. The front side of the church clearly showed its old and historic design, while the side portion already looked more modern because it had been renovated over the years.
As I looked around another corner, I spotted an old building. At first, I thought it was the city hall, but I later found out that it was actually their tourism office and at the same time a national museum. In front of the building stands the statue of Jose Rizal, the national hero of the Philippines, with the Philippine flag proudly waving behind it. Beside the statue, there is also a fountain that adds beauty to the area.
I continued strolling around until I found the pathway leading to the coastal area, where their plaza can also be seen. Since Ormoc City is known for its large pineapple plantations, the plaza features several pineapple statues scattered around the area. On top of the pineapple designs is a figure of a woman that looks like she is gracefully dancing. Across the plaza, you can also see their large stage where they usually hold different events and celebrations.
Beside the stage, you can see Veterans Park. It is actually a nice place to hang out because it is shaded and cool, thanks to the many trees, and it is also located near the sea. Since the weather was extremely hot, I decided to rest for a while in the park. Even though I was alone, I did not feel bored because the surroundings were peaceful and relaxing.
After that relaxing break, I continued my stroll. Right across from Veterans Park, you can clearly see their Superdome, which is one of the city’s well-known landmarks. After that, I proceeded further and eventually saw the lighthouse ahead.
That is what you will see when you take a stroll around their plaza in Ormoc City.
It is a simple yet refreshing place to explore, where different landmarks are close to each other and easy to visit on foot. From historical spots to relaxing open spaces, the area gives a mix of culture, nature, and local life that makes the stroll enjoyable and worth your time.
Thank you for reading and see you on my next blog. Cheers!
