On my previous blogs of our one month vacation on the beautiful island of Koh Samui in Thailand i showed you many beautiful beaches and mountain views of resorts we stayed at and many little hidden gems around the island on this particular day continuing our tour around the island in our little yellow jeep we had decided it was time to visit the big Buddha temple called the Wat Phra Yai Temple which sits on a small rocky island off Koh Samuiās near the northeastern corner.
We could not leave this beautiful island without not seeing this amazing golden Buddha statue at this temple and paying our respect for keeping us safe while touring the island. This golden statue Buddha stands 12 meters tall seated and was built in 1972 they say that the pose of this golden Buddha is a symbol of steadfastness, purity and enlightenment , it is one of the most popular attractions and landmarks on this island we first noticed it when we flew into Koh Samui and said to ourselves we must visit this huge Buddha and here we are standing in front of this amazing huge golden Buddha statue.
Buddhist devotees come here everyday offering flowers to the Buddha and light incense praying for there well been and good fortune and around the temple grounds were some vendors and various shops selling religious artifacts , clothing , souvenirs and foods.
Walking away from the big Buddha at the other end of this courtyard we noticed these other huge statues standing tall out of the sea water which was The Gulf of Thailand sea we had never seen such statues and were curious to take a closer look and learn more about them.
What these statues represent is the Thai tale character statues known for there Thai myths and legends , stories are played out as a traditional custom to the Thai people and kids to remind them of the rolls that these particular tale character statues did centuries ago. Thailand is a country steeped in myths and legends with many stories of ancient kingdoms and terrifying ghosts but whatever they represented these statues were just amazing to see it's not something you see every day of week the minds that come up with these amazing statues are incredible.
After seeing and learning a bit more of Thailand culture we moved on , back on the ring road again and not after a few kilometers of driving we can across yet another unusual thing that you wouldn't expect to see in Thailand but hey this is why they call it "Amazing Thailand" always getting better and full of surprises. As we were getting closer to this other unusual thing we couldn't work out if it was a witches castle , Pebbles and Flintstones House or a old medieval castle to me it looked more like a witches castle because of it's spooky look can you images the hours that went into building this pebble stone house amazing work.
It turns out to be that this fairy tale building belongs to a local silversmith and jeweler called Mr Miwat Wichityam it's his home and studio and out of this fairy tale building he makes some of the most finest and extraordinarily silver jewelry in Thailand and apart from his love of marking silver jewelry it seemed he is also a lover of Beetle Bugs and Kombi Vans. It was a real shame Flintstones house was closed would have loved to have seen his extraordinary silver jewelry and we didn't happen to come back this way as time got away on us.
On our way back home we had a little stop over by the Nathon Pier just to enjoy the views, stretch the legs and check out some pirate boats which were used as tour boats.
And another amazing view from another look out point driving along the ring road around Samui island over looking The Gulf of Thailand down to Chaweng Beach.
And before ending the day after another wonderful day of touring and discovering unusually things around the island we pulled over by the Lamai Beach Thai restaurant to enjoy a delicious Thai meal and another beautiful sunset before calling it the day.
