Do you ever get that urge you need to pack the boot of your car and make that weekend getaway, I have been getting that urge quite a bit lately knowing that overseas travel at the moment is to much red tape and drama so it's best just to travel my own backyard, Australia is a beautiful country and has so much to offer and you don't need to get on a plane to do this recently I have just pack the boot of the car and headed north along the NSW coastline this weekend we chose to go to a small town called Bellingen which is on the NSW coastline.
Bellingen Town in NSW is another one of those many little charming towns we have along our northern coastline of NSW, with only a population of just over 3,000 people it's a town with some pretty prime real estate where a lots of people would love to retire, it has the most amazing beaches and rainforest with a lovely freshwater river. It was a 3 hour drive from my home town of Byron Bay a very pleasant drive along the Pacific Highway coastline.
After arriving at this pretty little town we checked into our seaside hotel after a nice lunch we decided to take a wonder up to the Sawtell Lookout Point from here we could see the Bellingen River winding around the town ship and the cool mountains surrounded by rainforest where we were going to be heading to next for a bike ride through the national park rainforest. The Bellingen River has a course of 69 kilometers through the Great Dividing Range Mountains before reaching the Tasman Sea. This river is a very popular activity area for the locals fishing, kayaking and swimming in this cool fresh water river takes place.
The Bellinger River National Park cover a area of over 2800 hectares of untouched natural wilderness and valleys filled with waterfalls great hiking grounds but we were not here to spend days of hiking even though I would have love to lose myself in that rainforest instead we hired a couple of bikes and when exploring the rainforest.
After our refreshing ride through the rainforest it was time to head back into town to our seaside hotel where we then took a walk along the beach to see our first sunset on Bellingen Beach, it may only be a sunset you say but for us we always fill different seeing a sunset in a different place on a different beach makes us feel free like we are on vacation all over again and it was a amazing sunset at that.
A beautiful sleep by the seaside hotel listening to the waves crashing on the shoreline the next morning I was up early feeling the urge for a jog before breakfast I always love to jog on a different beach that I haven't jogged before it was a beautiful morning I could see the sunrise coming up the start of a new day was here and I love starting it of with a jog on the beach why not.
After a delicious breakfast we decided to take a walk around the Bellingen Pier by the river from here the locals can boat out to the Tasman Sea for a bit of sailing, fishing or just a relaxing day out at sea. There certainly were some unusual ancient boats at this pier that's for sure but never the less it had that friendly, peaceful atmosphere.
Bellingen Town is very famous for it's Promised Land Retreat, it sits on a 100 acre property surrounded by just pure natural beauty and golden beaches a very romantic location for that getaway we didn't get close to see the retreat but stopped at one of the beaches along the headlands and took a walk before leaving to head back to Byron Bay.
Just a cute little church we saw on the outskirts of Bellingen Town and the local Donut man in his little ancient caravan, nice pineapple donuts they were.
On our way home from Bellingen Town my wife spotted the Aboriginal Cultural Gallery she loves Aboriginal art clothing and jewelry and I don't mind it either so we pulled over to check it out there was no hurry to rush home so in we went.
Aboriginal art and dress has become a very big thing in Australia they are coming more into fashion with their unusual remarkable designs and more in the country towns, there art work has become more recognized and trendy everyone wants a piece of there fashion or artwork is why my wife likes to keep up with this trend as she sells a lot of there clothing, artwork and jewelry in a little shop she runs in Byron Bay with some of her friends. Well it was another enjoyable weekend at little expense and educational.
