Ya he hablado antes sobre el sitio que les traigo hoy. Sin embargo, creo que vale la pena mostrarles estas fotos que encontré en la galería de mi Samsung, tomadas en mi última visita a este lugar. Fotos que no pude compartir en aquel momento porque eran demasiadas y no cabían en un solo post. El hotel Nacional de Cuba es un castillo habanero con más historia que un libro y unas vistas que enamoran, como las de este salón donde se celebran eventos, cumpleaños, fiestas de 15 años, bodas, etc.

I've talked before about the place I'm bringing you today. However, I think it's worth showing you these photos I found in my Samsung gallery, taken on my last visit to this spot. Photos I couldn't share at the time because there were too many and they wouldn't fit in a single post. The Hotel Nacional de Cuba is a Havana castle with more history than a book and views that will make you fall in love, like those from this hall where events, birthdays, 15th birthday parties, weddings, etc., are celebrated.

Si hay un lugar en La Habana que tiene ese "no sé qué" que te atrapa, ese es, sin duda, el Hotel Nacional de Cuba. Y no lo digo yo, lo dijo el gran Alejo Carpentier, que lo bautizó como un "castillo encantado". Porque, seamos sinceros, no solo se va a dormir allí (yo ni he pensado en eso), allí se va a vivir una experiencia. Desde que lo ves imponente en la loma de Taganana, en pleno Vedado, sabes que no es un hotel cualquiera. Es como si el edificio mismo tuviera alma.

If there's a place in Havana that has that certain "je ne sais quoi" that captivates you, it is, without a doubt, the Hotel Nacional de Cuba. And it's not just me saying it; the great Alejo Carpentier said it, calling it an "enchanted castle." Because, let's be honest, you don't just go there to sleep (I haven't even thought about that), you go there to live an experience. From the moment you see it standing imposingly on the Taganana hill, right in Vedado, you know it's not just any hotel. It's as if the building itself has a soul.

Y es que el "Nacional", como le decimos cariñosamente los cubanos, es una belleza arquitectónica que no pasa de moda. Inaugurado en 1930, es una mezcla loca y maravillosa de estilos, tiene cositas sevillanas, detalles moriscos, un toque romano y hasta un aire art déco que le sienta de maravilla. Fíjate bien en su entrada, con esas columnas de piedra coralina que parecen sacadas de un sueño.

And the "Nacional," as we Cubans affectionately call it, is an architectural beauty that never goes out of style. Inaugurated in 1930, it's a crazy and wonderful mix of styles; it has little Sevillian touches, Moorish details, a Roman flair, and even an Art Deco vibe that suits it marvelously. Take a good look at its entrance, with those coral stone columns that seem taken from a dream.

Y luego está el paseo por sus jardines, que son un espectáculo aparte. Palmas reales, muebles de mimbre, pavos reales paseándose como si fueran los dueños y, de fondo, el rugido del mar. Es el plan perfecto para ver el atardecer más bonito de La Habana, con un mojito en la mano y la brisa del Malecón dándote en la cara.

And then there's the stroll through its gardens, which are a spectacle in themselves. Royal palms, wicker furniture, peacocks strutting around as if they own the place, and in the background, the roar of the sea. It's the perfect plan to watch the most beautiful sunset in Havana, with a mojito in hand and the breeze from the Malecón on your face.

Pero lo que de verdad hace bello a este hotel es lo que sus paredes han visto. Han pasado por ahí personajes de todo tipo, desde Winston Churchill y los Duques de Windsor, hasta Frank Sinatra y Ava Gardner. Hasta Ernest Hemingway se sentaba en su bar a inspirarse. Y sí, también tuvo su lado oscuro de película, con reuniones de la mafia de Lucky Luciano y Meyer Lansky, que hasta aparecen en "El Padrino II". Esa mezcla de glamour, historia y leyenda negra es la que le da ese encanto único.

But what truly makes this hotel beautiful is what its walls have witnessed. All kinds of famous figures have passed through, from Winston Churchill and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor to Frank Sinatra and Ava Gardner. Even Ernest Hemingway used to sit at its bar for inspiration. And yes, it also had its dark, movie-like side, with meetings of the mafia involving Lucky Luciano and Meyer Lansky, who even appear in "The Godfather Part II." That mix of glamour, history, and legendary infamy is what gives it its unique charm.

Hoy en día, el Hotel Nacional sigue siendo el rey indiscutible de la hospitalidad cubana. Yo no me canso de mirarlo y admirarlo. Claro, tiene 95 años y, como toda persona con historia, tiene sus arrugas y sus achaques, pero con una dignidad que impone respeto. No es una simple vieja con coloretes, es la elegancia hecha hotel. Si te hospedas allí, puedes darte un chapuzón en su piscina histórica, cenar comida criolla en La Barraca, o dejarte llevar por el espectáculo del Cabaret Parisién.

Today, the Hotel Nacional remains the undisputed king of Cuban hospitality. I never tire of looking at it and admiring it. Sure, it's 95 years old and, like any person with a history, it has its wrinkles and its aches and pains, but with a dignity that commands respect. It's not just an old lady with rouge; it's elegance made hotel. If you stay there, you can take a dip in its historic pool, have Creole cuisine at La Barraca, or let yourself be carried away by the Cabaret Parisién show.

Y si no te hospedas, no pasa nada, puedes pasar una tarde en su terraza o en su jardín, tomarte un daiquiri o un café y escuchar el piano o a los grupos de música tradicional que amenizan el area. Solo por vivir ese momento y respirar aire puro y de mar, para mí, el Nacional es, simplemente, el hotel más bonito y emblemático de Cuba porque es pura magia.

And if you don't stay there, no problem, you can spend an afternoon on its terrace or in its garden, have a daiquiri or a coffee, and listen to the piano or the traditional music groups that liven up the area. Just for living that moment and breathing pure, sea air, for me, the Nacional is simply the most beautiful and emblematic hotel in Cuba because it is pure magic.
