Cuba y China están ligadas a través de la historia, por tal motivo hay mucho de esa tierra aquí. Así como hay un gran barrio chino en la capital cubana, del cual les hablaré pronto, también hay un famoso restaurante que se encuentra bien alejado de ese barrio. Si un día estás en La Habana, específicamente en la zona de Miramar y se te antoja dar un saltito a China sin gastar en el pasaje, puedes ir al Restaurante Beijing. Este sitio te transporta directo a la comida auténtica del gigante asiático, todo con el toque y la sazón que solo se puede vivir en la capital cubana.

Cuba and China are linked through history, which is why there is so much of that land here. Just as there is a large Chinatown in the Cuban capital — which I’ll tell you about soon — there is also a famous restaurant located far away from that neighborhood. If you ever find yourself in Havana, specifically in the Miramar area, and you feel like taking a little trip to China without spending on airfare, you can go to Beijing Restaurant. This place transports you straight to the authentic food of the Asian giant, all with the touch and flavor that can only be experienced in the Cuban capital.

En este restaurante el ambiente es con un exquisito estilo oriental, por supuesto. En cada esquina o rincón hay objetos y decoraciones espectaculares. Algo que llamó mucho mi atención fueron estas lamparas tan características de esta cultura. Allí el rojo prevalece por encima de el resto de los colores.

The atmosphere in this restaurant is, of course, exquisite with an Eastern style. In every corner or nook, you’ll find spectacular objects and decorations. Something that really caught my attention were these lamps, so characteristic of this culture. Red prevails over all other colors here.

El Beijing se encuentra bien ubicado en la Calle 7ma entre 2 y 4, en el municipio de Playa, cerca del famoso puente de hierro, del cual hablé en un post anterior y del tunel de la calle Linea, del que también les hablé con anterioridad. Lo primero que atrapa cuando uno lo ve es su decoración, está totalmente ambientado al estilo chino, con una puesta en escena que respeta hasta el último detalle de la tradición. Su espacio es amplio, con capacidad para más de 120 comensales a la vez, y además tiene áreas privadas reservadas para quien quiera una experiencia más exclusiva.

Beijing Restaurant is well located on 7th Street between 2nd and 4th, in the Playa municipality, near the famous iron bridge (which I mentioned in a previous post) and the Linea Street tunnel (which I also talked about before). The first thing that grabs you when you see it is its decoration — it’s completely styled in the Chinese manner, with a presentation that respects every last detail of tradition. The space is large, with capacity for more than 120 diners at once, and it also has private areas reserved for those who want a more exclusive experience.

Allí los sabores conquistan. La carta es un sueño para cualquier amante de la buena mesa, pues ofrece más de 50 platos típicos de la cocina china. Los chefs, todos nativos de China y con una experiencia que se nota en cada bocado, están a cargo del menú. Entre las especialidades más aclamadas están el tofu suave, la langosta en queso caliente que funde texturas, el pescado frito con salsa agridulce y la carne de cerdo escabechada, esta última con un toque único que juega entre lo agrio y lo salado. Y si eres fan de la mezcla, también preparan algunas recetas experimentales que fusionan la sazón cubana con los ingredientes tradicionales del Lejano Oriente.

The flavors here are captivating. The menu is a dream for any lover of good food, offering more than 50 typical dishes of Chinese cuisine. The chefs, all natives of China with experience evident in every bite, are in charge of the menu. Among the most acclaimed specialties are soft tofu, hot cheese lobster that melts textures, fried fish with sweet and sour sauce, and escabeche pork — the latter with a unique touch that plays between sour and salty. And if you’re a fan of fusion, they also prepare some experimental recipes that blend Cuban seasoning with traditional ingredients from the Far East.

Más allá de los fogones y las comidas deliciosas y diferentes, el restaurante Beijing es recordado por un gran gesto de corazón que tuvo durante una etapa difícil. En plena pandemia de la COVID-19, donó 15 toneladas de arroz a Cuba como muestra de ayuda y para reafirmar los lazos de hermandad entre China y la Isla. Un detalle que habla de la calidez, amistad, responsabilidad y el compromiso que hay detrás de este negocio.

Beyond the stoves and the delicious, different food, Beijing Restaurant is remembered for a great heartfelt gesture during a difficult time. Right in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, it donated 15 tons of rice to Cuba as a show of aid and to reaffirm the bonds of brotherhood between China and the Island. A detail that speaks to the warmth, friendship, responsibility, and commitment behind this business.

Tiempo atrás este sitio era mucho más visitado por turistas nacionales e internacionales. Supe que los fines de semana si hay buena afluencia de clientes y que todos salen satisfechos. Pero si eres de las personas curiosidad, como yo, y andas cerca de este lugar puedes ir a visitarlo o almorzar de 12:00 m. a 3:00 p.m., o a cenar desde las 6:00 p.m. hasta las 10:00 p.m. El Beijing no es solo un restaurante, es toda una experiencia que tienes que vivir.

Some time ago, this place was much more visited by national and international tourists. I’ve heard that on weekends there is a good flow of customers and that everyone leaves satisfied. But if you are a curious person like me, and you’re near this place, you can go visit or have lunch from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., or have dinner from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Beijing is not just a restaurant — it’s an entire experience you have to live.
