A Journey Through the Limpets
Las Lapas is a must-visit destination, a town further from Colonia Tovar, offering many enchanting natural landscapes. When they invited me, the idea filled me with enthusiasm.
The adventure begins as follows: depart from anywhere in the city and take the metro to the last station, the western sector, the Propatria metro station. There are several departure points, but this one is the most convenient for me. At the station, there are vans that take you to El Junquito, and you stay at the stop in the town. My friend was waiting for me there to board another vehicle and begin our journey. Along the way, it rained heavily, something unfamiliar to us. We asked the driver to drop us off at the gas station or at the arch, as reference points.

Un Viaje Por Las Lapas
Las Lapas un destino obligado para visitar, un pueblo más alejado de la Colonia Tovar, que nos brinda muchos paisajes naturales y encantadores. Cuando me hicieron la invitación, la idea me llenó de entusiasmo.
La aventura comienza de la siguiente manera: sales desde cualquier parte donde te encuentres en la ciudad y te trasladas en el metro, hasta la última estación, sector oeste, estación del metro Propatria. Hay varios puntos de partida, pero esta, es la que me queda más cómoda. En la estación hay camionetas que te llevan al junquito y te quedas en la parada del pueblito. Ahí me esperaba mi amiga, para subir a otro vehículo y comenzar nuestro viaje. En el camino llovió bastante, como no conocíamos. Le pedimos al chofer que nos dejara, en la estación de la bomba de gasolina, o en el arco, como puntos de referencia.
Upon arrival, we got off in the pouring rain; our friend, Veda, was waiting for us, camping under an awning. While we were getting to know each other and welcoming us, she told us she'd spoken to a neighbor about giving us a lift in her car because the drive is long and there's no transportation to take you up the mountain. Due to the bad weather, everything was cloudy and it was extremely cold. After waiting a while, the neighbor arrived and picked us up in a van. She drove us to a certain point, and from there, we began to climb a hill.
Al llegar, nos bajamos en plena lluvia; nuestra amiga, Veda, nos esperaba, acampando bajo un toldo. Mientras que nos conocíamos y nos daba la bienvenida, nos comentó que había hablado con una vecina para que nos diera un empujón, en su carro, porque el trayecto es largo y no hay transporte que te llevara a la montaña. Por el mal tiempo todo estaba nublado y el frío era extremo. Después de esperar un rato llegó la vecina y nos recogió en una camioneta. Nos llevó hasta cierto punto y, desde ahí, comenzamos a subir una cuesta.
I continued with my enthusiasm, although I didn't know what was waiting for me on the road, I soon realized how difficult it would be, especially for me, every step I took required effort, the road was rustic, intricate with stones, ups and downs, and I was not used to climbing mountains, but once I was there I couldn't turn back, it turned out to be a challenge that I was able to overcome, the reward was encouraging, with all the scenery that was presented to us, every time we rested, the fog was constantly hovering around the whole place and the cold crept under our jackets, being the first time I realized that I had to bring more warm clothes; however, on the walk I warmed up.
Yo seguía con mi entusiasmo, aunque no sabía lo que me esperaba en el camino, pronto me di cuenta de lo difícil que resultaría, sobre todo para mí, cada paso que daba requería esfuerzo, el camino era rústico intrincado con piedras, subidas y bajadas y yo no estaba acostumbrada a subir montañas, pero después que estaba ahí ya no podía dar vuelta atrás, resulto todo un desafío que pude vencerlo, la recompensa resulto alentadora, con todo el paisaje que se nos presentaba, cada vez que descansábamos, la neblina constantemente estaba rondando todo el lugar y el frío se colaba bajo nuestras chaquetas, por ser la primera vez me di cuenta de que había que traer más abrigo; sin embargo, en la marcha me calentaba.
The transformation of the landscape impressed us more and more as we walked. Veda told us we were almost there, and the geographical location of Veda's house painted a spectacular panoramic view every moment, with its mountains and forests. We could barely make out the rural houses deep in the mountains. The mist covered us and then vanished like magic; the trail was quite difficult, but afterward I enjoyed it every time, as beautiful landscapes unfolded before our eyes. They took our breath away and made me forget my tiredness and fatigue, as nature showed itself in all its splendor, and this transformed me and lowered my stress levels.
La transformación del paisaje, a cada momento nos impresionaba más, a medida que íbamos caminando, Veda, nos decía que ya faltaba poco y la ubicación geográfica de la casa de Veda, nos pintaba una vista panorámica espectacular cada instante, con sus montañas y bosques, apenas podíamos divisar las casitas rurales en lo profundo de sus montañas. La neblina nos tapaba y luego se desvanecía como magia; el sendero era bastante difícil, pero después lo disfrutaba, cada vez, que, a nuestros ojos se desplegaban hermosos paisajes, nos quitaban el aliento y me hacía olvidar el cansancio y la fatiga, ya que la naturaleza se mostraba en todo su esplendor y eso me transformaba y me bajaba los niveles de estrés.
Finally, I overcame the long hike and arrived home, feeling very satisfied and giving our weary bodies a well-deserved rest. Although my friend Veda is used to the uphill and downhill walk, it's only about a kilometer or so. Back in the warmth of her home, we shared a delicious meal and a good night's sleep, laughing and sharing stories. Her cozy rural house made us feel right at home; it's also nestled in the mountains and isolated from its neighbors, with many acres of land, but it needs to be prepared.
Finalmente, la prueba de la larga caminata, la superé, llegamos a la casa, con mucha satisfacción y dándole un merecido descanso a nuestros cuerpos agotados. Aunque la amiga Veda, está acostumbrada a subir y bajar el trayecto, son como un kilómetro más o menos. Ya en la calidez de su hogar compartimos entre risas y anécdotas una rica comida y un buen descanso. Su casa rural, acogedora, ella nos hizo sentir como en casa; está enclavada también en la montaña y aislada de sus vecinos, con mucha hectárea de terreno, pero que hay que prepararla.
The stay was long, and we had many plans. Meanwhile, we enjoyed the scenery and felt like nature itself. The fog was our companion, tucked into the mountains, coming and going as it pleased. The sun rarely appeared, but in the distance, behind the clouds, it graced us with every sunset, and the red glow intensified the sky with its nuances of color in the mornings and evenings. Every day, the mountains gave us the opportunity to experience nature. Just contemplating the trees, the landscape of the crops on the hills, the distant houses embedded like a birthplace in the midst of nature, breathing the pure air, and the clouds moving en masse at high speed distracted me with their dances. This whole atmosphere made me feel transported and rejuvenated.
La estadía fue larga, teníamos muchos planes, mientras tanto disfrutamos de los paisajes, y sentimos la propia naturaleza. La neblina era nuestra acompañante metida en la montaña, venía y se iba cuando quería. El sol muy poco se asomaba, pero a la distancia y detrás de las nubes nos regalaba cada puesta y los arreboles intensificaban el cielo con sus matices de colores en las mañanas y los atardeceres. Cada día, la montaña nos daba la oportunidad de vivir en medio de la naturaleza, el solo contemplar los árboles, la geografía de cultivos en sus montañas, las casas alejadas e incrustadas como nacimiento en medio de ella, respirar el aire puro, y las nubes moviéndose en masa y a gran velocidad me distraían con sus danzas, todo ese ambiente, me hacía sentir que estaba transportada y rejuvenecida.

After a time away from the city, I realized how much I missed being away from it all. In the mornings, the rooster's crowing would wake us up, and it was hard to get rid of the blankets. The cold was intense, and I would wake up feeling sleepy, but when I had my coffee, I would recharge my energy. Later, as we went up and down the mountain, it became a habit, despite the challenges. Nature always showed us its beauty just on the trail and on its slopes. We often passed through the same places, and they were already familiar to us; the activities we did took us in the same directions every day. Veda lent us some coats when our jackets got wet from the rain.
Alejada por un tiempo de la ciudad, me di cuenta de la falta que hace separarse de la urbe. En las mañanas nos despertaba el cantar del gallo, me costaba despojarme de las cobijas. El frío era intenso, me paraba toda soñolienta, pero cuando tomaba mi cafecito, recargaba de nuevo mis energías. Ya después, al bajar y subir la montaña, se hacía costumbre, a pesar de los desafíos. Siempre la naturaleza nos mostraba su belleza en tan solo en el camino, y en sus laderas. Muchas veces pasamos por los mismos lugares, y ya nos eran familiares, las actividades que hacíamos nos llevaban por los mismos rumbos, cada día. Veda nos prestaba algunos abrigos cuando nuestras chaquetas se mojaban por la lluvia.
When it was time to return, we had more energy; the mountain had another test of effort in store for us. It was still difficult; the road required careful attention. The distance to the village was much longer; this time, there was no one to give us a ride.
Cuando nos tocó el regreso, teníamos más energía, la montaña nos tenía preparada otra prueba de esfuerzo. Igualmente, fue difícil, el camino había que ponerle atención. La distancia hasta llegar al pueblo, resultó mucho más larga, esta vez no había nadie que nos acercara en carro
Our friend accompanied us to the bus stop, where we had to wait for a vehicle to take us to the town of El Junquito. It was very difficult to catch a ride; no vehicles were passing by. To avoid being left behind, we decided to walk. We walked two kilometers until a man in a private car gave us a ride. As we approached the town, our tiredness turned to excitement. The joy of having overcome the difficulties along the way together made us feel more secure.
Nuestra amiga nos acompañó, hasta la parada, ahí teníamos que esperar un vehículo que nos llevara al pueblo del junquito. Resultó muy difícil agarrar algún transporte; no pasaba ningún vehículo. Para que no se nos hiciera más tarde, decidimos irnos a pie. Así caminamos dos kilómetros, hasta que un señor, en carro particular, nos dio la cola. hasta acercarnos, al pueblo, el cansancio se transformó en emoción. La alegría de haber superado juntas las dificultades en el camino nos hicieron sentir más seguras

I think it was a true adventure, and an experience I won't forget. I certainly wouldn't hesitate to return again. Although we went for learning and to educate the community, I would love the opportunity to enjoy nature more as a tourist and learn more about the community's way of life and food. On this trip, I learned that nature has its charms, and even though the paths are difficult, it will always reward us with its natural beauty. And in this special blog, I thank my friend Mayela and, especially, Veda, for lovingly offering us a space in their home during our stay.
Creo que fue la verdadera aventura, y una experiencia que no olvidaré, sin duda no vacilaría en volver otra vez, aunque fuimos por motivos de aprendizaje y formar a la comunidad, me gustaría tener la oportunidad para de disfrutar más la naturaleza de manera turística y conocer más a la comunidad en su forma de vida y alimentación. En este viaje aprendí que la naturaleza tiene sus encantos y, aunque los caminos son difíciles, siempre nos va a recompensar con su belleza natural. Y en este blog especial agradezco a mi amiga Mayela y a, Veda en especial, por brindarnos un espacio en su hogar con mucho amor, durante nuestra estadía.
