When my intention to return to Ushuaia finally came to fruition, I was very excited to continue doing everything I had left pending. Of course I understood that you can never ever do everything on a trip, but this time I had the opportunity to do as much as possible. In my case, I love trekking and mountains and in this city of Tierra del Fuego, there are plenty of places to do this. After a few days of settling in and acclimatising to the cold of the end of the world, I was finally ready to go on a long hike again, and for that I decided to go to the, unknown to me, Laguna Encantada ❤️.
Cuando finalmente se cumplió mi intención de volver a Ushuaia, estaba muy emocionada por continuar haciendo todo lo que me había quedado pendiente. Por supuesto que entendí que en un viaje nunca jamás se puede hacer todo, pero esta vez que tenía la oportunidad, quería aprovecharla para hacer lo máximo posible. En mi caso, me encanta el trekking y las montañas y en esta ciudad de Tierra del Fuego, lugares para hacer esto sobran. Después de algunos días de instalarme y aclimatarme al frío del fin del mundo, finalmente estuve lista para emprender una caminata larga otra vez, y para eso decidí ir a la, desconocida para mí, Laguna Encantada ❤️.
Although I had been doing some trekking before returning to Ushuaia, I think that doing this activity in such a cold climate requires a period of adaptation. So, first I started with hiking in the city and then I visited the Martial Glacier, one very close to the city. When I finally felt ready to increase the distance of my hike, I went to the so-called Andorra Valley in order to see the Laguna Encantada, one I had missed on my first visit 😃.
Si bien antes de regresar a Ushuaia había estado haciendo algo de trekking, pienso que hacer esta actividad en un clima tan frío como este necesita un periodo de adaptación. Por eso, primero empecé con caminatas en la ciudad y luego visité el Glaciar Martial, uno muy cerca a la ciudad. Cuando al fin me sentí lista para aumentar la distancia de mi caminata, me fui hasta el llamado Valle de Andorra con el objetivo de ver la Laguna Encantada, una que me había faltado hacer en mi primera visita 😃.
The trail to this lagoon is part of the main trail to the more famous Vinciguerra Glacier. About 2 kilometres into the trail, there is a fork to the right that takes you to this spot. Most people, like me on my 2023 stay, visit the Vinciguerra Glacier directly, without taking the extra two hours that this detour requires. This is because at the foot of the glacier there is already another lagoon and perhaps it is ‘unnecessary’ to see yet another one that involves an extra 3 kilometres of walking 🙃.
El sendero a esta laguna es parte del sendero principal hacia el más famoso Glaciar Vinciguerra. Unos 2 kilómetros de iniciado el sendero, hay una bifurcación hacia la derecha que te lleva hasta ese lugar. La mayoría de la gente, como yo en mi estadía de 2023, visita directamente el Glaciar Vinciguerra, sin tomarse las dos horas extras que requiere este desvío. Esto es porque al pie del glaciar ya existe otra laguna y quizás es "innecesario" ver otra más que involucra unos 3 kilómetros extras de caminata 🙃.
But as I had already seen the glacier last year, this time I decided to go to the Andorra Valley specifically to go to the Laguna Encantada. To get there you have to go by Uber, at a cost of about $8. It was October and there weren't many people in the hostel yet to share the transfer, so again I activated Couchsurfing to look for walking companions. Luckily I found someone who wanted to go see the glacier, so we went together in the car and walked to the fork from where we went our separate ways. Once again, a walker not interested in going to see this lagoon 😂.
Pero como yo ya había visto el glaciar el año pasado, esta vez decidí ir al Valle de Andorra específicamente para ir a la Laguna Encantada. Para llegar hasta ahí es necesario ir en Uber, con un costo de unos $8. Era octubre y todavía no había mucha gente en el hostel como para compartir el traslado, así que nuevamente activé Couchsurfing para buscar compañeros de caminata. Por suerte encontré alguien que quería ir a ver al glaciar, así que fuimos juntos en el auto y caminamos hasta la bifurcación desde donde tomamos caminos separados. Una vez más, un caminante no interesado en ir a ver esta laguna 😂.
Most of the way there was no snow at all, except for the last 500 metres before I reached the end of my trail. I had my crampons with me, but they were not necessary because the path was still passable with normal shoes. When I was finally at the foot of the lagoon, I came across a half-melted mirror of water, which together with the day's lighting formed a beautiful reflection. I am a fan of this effect on the water, so I found it hypnotic, and besides, as there was no one else there but me, I could enjoy the tranquillity of the whole space ❤️.
En casi todo el camino no hubo nada de nieve, salvo en los últimos 500 metros antes de llegar al final de mi sendero. Llevaba conmigo los crampones, pero igualmente no fueron necesarios porque el camino estaba aún transitable con zapatos normales. Cuando finalmente estuve al pie de la laguna, me encontré con un espejo de agua a medio derretir, que en conjunto con la iluminación de ese día formaban un hermoso reflejo. Yo soy fan de este efecto en el agua, así que me resultó hipnótico, y además, como no había nadie más que yo, pude disfrutar de la tranquilidad de todo este espacio ❤️.
I stayed at the lagoon for a while, eating my lunch and having fun trying to get a good souvenir photo. I'm always excited to see new places, and going back to the valley to see this lagoon felt like completing my check list of treks in the area. The snow I encountered along the way also added a bit of difficulty to the trail, but also made it interesting. Not to mention the reflection I saw, which was my favourite part of all and a unique gift from nature just for me ❤️.
Me quedé un buen rato en la laguna, tomando mi almuerzo y entretenida tratando de sacarme una buena foto de recuerdo. Siempre me emociona conocer lugares nuevos, y volver a ir al valle para conocer esta laguna se sintió como completar mi check list de trekkings por esa zona. La nieve que me encontré en el camino también agregó un poco de dificultad al sendero, pero también lo volvió interesante. Y ni hablar del reflejo que vi, que fue mi parte favorita de todas y un regalo único de la naturaleza solo para mí ❤️.
