After crossing Route 7 and its incredible tunnels we finally reached the western end of our country. This moment was really very moving: the guide made a speech talking about love for our country and I think that more than one of them will have shed a tear. Several kilometers of travel took us to the border with Chile, in a land pass where the great Cerro Aconcagua can be seen from the front ❤️.
Después de atravesar la ruta 7 y sus increíbles túneles finalmente llegamos al extremo oeste de nuestro país. Este momento fue realmente muy emocionante: el guía hizo un discurso hablando sobre el amor hacia nuestra patria y creo que más de uno se le habrá caído una lágrima. Varios kilómetros de viaje nos llevaron hasta la frontera con Chile, en un paso terrestre en donde se puede observar de frente el gran Cerro Aconcagua ❤️.
Being in that place meant a lot to me. So far it's the farthest west I've been in my country. Whenever I'm traveling I like to check my location on the map because sometimes I really can't believe it 😅. Although he had already been in the province of Mendoza, he had never reached this part.
Estar en ese lugar significó mucho para mí. Hasta ahora es lo más al oeste que fui en mi país. Siempre que estoy de viaje me gusta chequear mi ubicación en el mapa porque a veces realmente no lo puedo creer 😅. Si bien ya había estado en la provincia de Mendoza, nunca había llegado hasta esta parte.
The itinerary of this trip had a stop at the base of the hill and the climb to it was an optional walk. As always, I want to do everything that is available so I did not hesitate to buy this excursion. For her part, my traveling companion decided to stay drinking a coffee, a question completely understandable because it was very cold.
El itinerario de este viaje tenía una parada en la base del cerro y la subida hacia el mismo era un paseo opcional. Como siempre, yo quiero hacer todo lo que haya disponible así que no dudé en comprar esta excursión. Por su parte, mi compañera de viaje decidió quedarse bebiendo un café, cuestión completamente entendible porque hacía muchísimo frío.
We made the ascent in a few small buses, since being a rather winding road, large buses have difficulties to maneuver around those curves. Again I was surprised by the skill of the drivers, but I suppose they are already very used to doing these routes.
Hicimos el ascenso en unos pequeños micros ya que al ser un camino bastante sinuoso, los colectivos de gran porte tienen dificultades para maniobrar en esas curvas. Nuevamente quedé sorprendida por la habilidad de los conductores, pero supongo que ya estan muy acostumbrados a hacer esos recorridos.
Like the route I saw on the Cuesta de Lipán in Jujuy , to ascend to the steep place the path is built in the shape of a snail. Curves and counter curves not suitable for people who get dizzy easily. Just look at the shape of the route.
Al igual que el recorrido que vi en la Cuesta de Lipán en Jujuy, para ascender al lugar tan empinado el camino está construido en forma de caracol. Curvas y contracurvas no aptas para personas que se marean fácilmente. Tan solo miren la forma de la ruta.
As we climbed, we stopped seeing the cafeteria at the base of the hill and went purely into mountains. The Andes mountain range is really majestic, and despite being in a time very close to summer, we were lucky to see some snow.
A medida que subíamos, dejamos de ver la cafetería en la base del cerro y nos adentramos puramente en montañas. La cordillera de Los Andes es realmente majestuosa, y a pesar de estar en una época muy cercana al verano, tuvimos la suerte de ver algo de nieve.
By the time we were at the top, my ears were completely covered, and when we got off the bus, the freeze was total. I had not considered that (which is obvious to say now) at the top of the mountains it would be very cold, so my coat was very scarce 😅.
Para cuando estuvimos en la cima, ya tenía los oídos completamente tapados, y cuando bajamos del micro, el congelamiento fue total. Yo no había considerado que (algo obvio diciéndolo ahora) en la cima de las montañas haría mucho frío, así que mi abrigo era muy escaso 😅.
From there we had an incredible frontal view of Cerro Aconcagua. This is the highest in the Andes Mountains and in all of America. It has an elevation of 6,960.8 meters above sea level, and some climbers told us that the snow on its top is permanent ❤️.
Desde allí tuvimos una increíble vista frontal del Cerro Aconcagua. Este es el más alto de la Cordillera de los Andes y de todo América. Tiene una elevación de 6960,8 metros sobre el nivel del mar, y unos escaladores nos contaron que la nieve de su cima es permanente ❤️.
Being in such an imposing place makes you feel insignificant. It seemed to me that my eyes did not reach to see how beautiful it was, I really got excited and a lump formed in my throat 😂.
Estar en ese lugar tan imponente te hace sentir insignificante. Me parecía que no me alcanzaban los ojos para ver lo hermoso que era, de verdad me emocioné y se me hizo un nudo en la garganta 😂.
Of course, this hill can be observed from different points: in particular, this place is called the Mirador del Cristo Redentor. It turns out that everyone who was with me had heard about it, except for me who did not find out about a place until I was in it 😅.
Por supuesto este cerro puede observarse desde distintos puntos: en particular, este lugar se llama Mirador del Cristo Redentor. Resulta que todos los que estaban conmigo habían escuchado sobre él, menos yo que no me informo sobre un lugar hasta que estoy en él 😅.
This is due to the sculpture found there since 1904, which represents the peaceful resolution that Argentina and Chile had in matters of geographical limits. They even say that this almost led to a war, but it was good that it did not 😅.
Esto es debido a la escultura que allí se encuentra desde 1904, la cual representa la pacífica resolución que tuvieron Argentina y Chile en cuestiones de límites geográficos. Incluso dicen que esto casi nos lleva a una guerra, pero que bueno que no fue así 😅.
Of course, there are military bases from both countries. And not to lose the custom of trade with tourism ... a handicraft and souvenir shop. For the sake of my pocket it was closed, but I would have preferred that they sell us a hot drink: I was really freezing 😵.
Por supuesto, allí se encuentran bases militares de ambos países. Y para no perder la costumbre del comercio con el turismo... una tienda de artesanías y recuerdos. Para el bien de mi bolsillo estaba cerrada, pero hubiese preferido que nos vendieran alguna bebida caliente: yo realmente me estaba congelando 😵.
All this area of the border is interesting because you cross the street and you are already in the neighboring country. So I was able to tell my friends that I went abroad 🤣.
Toda esta zona de la frontera es interesante porque cruzas la calle y ya estas en el país vecino. Así que pude decirles a mis amigos que me fuí al extranjero 🤣.
As if the ascent hadn't been adventurous enough, the descent was even more so. That the street is downhill and with the dry land scared you a little. If I ever learn to drive a vehicle, I suppose it would be many years before I could get into a street like this 😅.
Como si el ascenso no hubiese sido lo bastante aventurero, el descenso lo fue aún más. Que la calle esté en bajada y con la tierra seca te asustaba un poco. Si algún día aprendo a manejar un vehículo supongo que pasarían muchos años hasta que pueda meterme en una calle como esta 😅.
Once we got back to the base of the hill, there I did ask for a very hot coffee to thaw my organs. While we were there I saw a nice photograph of Christ and the flags of the two countries. It made me very happy to have known that place, thank goodness I chose to do that excursion ❤️.
Una vez que volvimos a la base del cerro, ahí si que me pedí un café bien caliente para que se me descongelen los órganos. Mientras estábamos allí vi una linda fotografía del Cristo y las banderas de los dos países. Me hizo muy feliz haber conocido ese lugar, menos mal que elegí hacer esa excursión ❤️.
From this walk I learned a very important lesson: although it is almost summer, in the Andes Mountains it is cold all year round, so it never hurts to wear something warm. With the one I had I was fine, but I would have liked to have more. However, that hot coffee came back to life and then I was ready to continue the trip, very happy to have seen one of the most beautiful landscapes of my life ❤️.
De este paseo aprendí una lección muy importante: si bien ya casi es verano, en la Cordillera de los Andes hace frío todo el año, por lo que nunca esta de más llevar algo de abrigo. Con el que tenía estuve bien, pero me hubiese gustado tener más. Sin embargo, ese café caliente me volvió a la vida y luego ya estuve lista para seguir el viaje, muy contenta por haber visto uno de los paisajes más lindos de mi vida ❤️.
