One of the things I liked about arriving at the town of El Chaltén is that it was a place prepared to receive visitors. At the bus station there was a tourist information center, where they gave us brochures with information on all the trekking we could do during our stay there. More than 100 km of beautiful trails between the mountains start from this place, and we went to do some of them. Still testing our fitness, my cousin and I decided to do another of the short trails, which would take only two hours one way and we might see a small hidden waterfall at the end ❤️.
Una de las cosas que me gustó de llegar al pueblo de El Chaltén es que se notó que es un lugar preparado para recibir a los visitantes. En la estación de micros se encontraba en centro de información turistica, en donde nos dieron folltería con la información de todos los trekkings que podíamos hacer durante nuestra estadía allá. Desde este lugar parten más de 100 km de senderos hermosos entre las montañas, y fuimos para hacer algunos de ellos. Todavía tanteando nuestro estado físico, mi prima y yo decidimos hacer otro de los senderos cortos, el cual tomaria solo dos horas de ida y podríamos ver una pequeña cascada oculta al final ❤️.
The first short walk we did was to the Margarita Viewpoint, a place where the greatest difficulty was that the trail was somewhat steep, but it took us less than an hour to get there. The next hike we chose was already two hours long one way, but we had been told that the terrain was mostly flat, so trekking boots weren't so necessary. Taking this into account, we took our things and went out to explore the area a bit 😃.
La primera caminata corta que hicimos fue hasta el Mirador Margarita, un lugar en donde la mayor difícultad fue que el sendero era algo empinado, pero tardamos menos de una hora en llegar. La siguiente caminata que elegimos ya tenía una duración de dos horas solo de ida, pero nos habían dicho que el terreno era principalmente plano, por lo que no era tan necesario llevar las botas de trekking. Teniendo en cuenta esto, tomamos nuestras cosas y salimos a explorar un poco el área 😃.
The town of El Chaltén is only a few blocks away, so just by walking a little you will reach the periphery and the entrance to any path you choose. Thanks to the maps that they gave us in the office and with the information that they gave us in the hostel, it didn't take us long to know which way we had to go. It was also pretty well signposted so there was little chance of getting lost ❣️.
El pueblo de El Chaltén solo tiene algunas cuadras a la redonda, por lo que con solo caminar un poco ya llegas a la periferia y a la entrada de cualquier sendero de elijas. Gracias a los mapas que nos dieron en la oficina y con la información que nos brindaron en el hostel, no tardamos en saber hacia que lado teníamos que ir. También estaba todo bastante bien señalizado, así que había pocas probabilidades de perderse ❣️.
Despite it being January and high season, when we did that trail we didn't come across so many people. As it is one of the "easy" ones, perhaps not so many people choose it, or because they arrive quickly, they do so in the morning. What I have to point out is that the day we had it was very windy and there was too much dust blowing, so my eyes and hair suffered the consequences later 😅.
A pesar de ser Enero y plena temporada alta, cuando hicimos ese sendero no nos cruzamos con tanta gente. Como es uno de los "fáciles" quizás no tanta gente lo elige, o como llegan rápido lo hacen durante la mañana. Lo que debo destacar es que el día que nos tocó estaba muy ventoso y volaba demasiada tierra, por lo que mis ojos y mi pelo sufrieron las consecuencias más tarde 😅.
Along the way we were able to see some beautiful mountainous landscapes, one of those that you find hard to believe because they look like a painting. In the first part of the trail we went along the so-called Río de Las Vueltas, which with a color that matched the sky made everything we were seeing even more magical. At that time of the year there was almost no snow, just a few snow-capped peaks in the distance, a typical summer postcard in southern Argentina ❤️.
Durante el camino pudimos ver unos paisajes montañosos hermosos, de esos que te cuesta creer porque parecen una pintura. En la primer parte del sendero fuimos costeando el llamado Río de Las Vueltas, que con un color que combinaba con el cielo hacía aún más mágico todo lo que estabamos viendo. En esa época del año ya casi no había nieve, solo algunos picos nevados a lo lejos, típica postal del verano en el sur de Argentina ❤️.
We did almost half of the way along a road where cars can also pass, but we reached a point where the sign indicated that we should continue along a path between the trees. This made the walk even more entertaining, although the fear of a bug appearing in the trees never went away. We were also just the two of us in this huge place, we hadn't seen other people for a while, so the adrenaline had started to rise 😅.
Casi la mitad del camino la hicimos al costado de una ruta por la cual también pueden pasar los autos, pero llegó un punto en el que el cartel señalaba que debíamos seguir por un sendero entre los árboles. Esto volvió el paseo aún más entretenido, aunque el miedo de que aparezca algún bicho entre los árboles nunca se fue. También estábamos las dos solas en este inmenso lugar, no habíamos visto a otras personas por un buen rato, por lo que la adrenalina había empezado a aumentar 😅.
When the two hours of the walk were about to begin, we came to a fork in the road and began to hear the noise of water. This is apparently where the driveway and the walking path meet because the place looked like a parking lot. With my cousin we went chatting and listening to a bit of music, so the road was hardly difficult for us.
Cuando se estaban por cumplir las dos horas de iniciada la caminata, llegamos a una bifurcación del camino y empezamos a escuchar ruido de agua. Aparentemente, es aquí cuando la ruta de los autos y el sendero para venir caminando se encuentran porque el lugar parecía un estacionamiento. Con mi prima fuimos charlando y escuchando un poco de música, así que el camino casi ni nos costó 😀.
Without realizing it, we had already reached the place where the waterfall was. After making one last little walk through the trees, you could reach the river bank where the waterfall called "Chorrillo del Salto" emptied. This was a small waterfall of about 10 meters that made a lot of echo in the silence of this forest. It was very nice and a great reward after the two hours and 3 km of walking ❤️.
Sin darnos cuenta, ya habíamos llegado al lugar en donde estaba la cascada. Después de hacer un último pequeño trayecto entre los árboles, podías llegar a la orilla del río en donde desembocaba la cascada llamada "Chorrillo del Salto". Esta era un pequeño salto de agua de unos 10 metros que hacía un montón de eco en lo silencioso de este bosque. Era muy lindo y una gran recompensa tras las dos horas y 3 km de caminata ❤️.
We stayed there for a long time, looking at the water, enjoying the scenery and resting a bit. Another good thing about this whole area is that it's mainly cold, so if you get tired walking and you get hot, just slow down for a while to return to your normal temperature. For now we had been doing the walks quite well, and I already thought that we would be ready for the longer treks 😃.
Nos quedamos un buen rato allí, mirando el agua, disfrutando el paisaje y descansando un poco. Otra cosa buena que tiene toda esta zona es que principalmente hace frío, por lo que si te cansas caminando y te agarra calor, solo basta frenar un rato para volver a tu temperatura normal. Por ahora veníamos llevando las caminatas bastante bien, y yo ya creía que estaríamos listas para los trekkings más largos 😃.
The way back was just as light and beautiful as on the way out. You might be surprised to know that when I took these photos it was almost 10 PM and the sun was just starting to go down. One of the most important recommendations they gave us is that we plan all our walks so that we can return with sunlight. To do this tour we leave at almost 6 PM, we arrive there at 8 and at 9 we start to return, ending up back in the town at almost 11 PM. The great thing about going in summer is that there are many hours of sun, so you can be out walking and losing track of time, but believe me, this place is worth it 💕.
El camino de vuelta fue igual de ligero y hermoso que a la ida. Les sorprendería saber que cuando tomé estas fotos eran casi las 10 PM y el sol recién estaba empezando a bajar. Una de las recomendaciones más importantes que nos dieron es que planifiquemos todas nuestras caminatas de forma de volver de con luz solar. Para hacer este paseo partimos casi a las 6 PM, llegamos allá a las 8 y a las 9 empezamos a volver, terminando de regreso en el pueblo casi a las 11 PM. Lo genial de haber ido en verano es que hay muchas horas de sol, entonces podes estar afuera paseando y perdiendo la noción del tiempo, pero creanme que este lugar lo vale ❤️.
The ones that didn't have a very good time were my shoes that ended up full of dirt and spikes. That advice that it was not necessary to wear trekking shoes was the worst advice I was given, so after that day, every afternoon I rented proper boots. Luckily in all that journey I didn't stick a thorn, otherwise it would have been terrible. But luckily everything went well 😅.
Las que no la pasaron muy bien fueron mis zapatillas que terminaron llenas de mugre y pinches. Ese consejo de que no era necesario llevar calzado de trekking fue el peor que me dieron, así que después de ese día, todas las tardes me alquilé unas botas adecuadas. Por suerte en todo ese trayecto no me clavé ninguna espina, sino hubiese sido terrible. Pero por suerte todo salió bien 😅.
On every trip I make I confirm that my country is beautiful, from north to south, whether it is hot or cold, whether I have to go near or far. While I was there I would have thanked the Universe a thousand times for having this opportunity, for having taken another step in my goal of seeing all the provinces, for having health and the freedom to walk wherever and whenever I want. I really am very lucky and I hope to continue further, there are still many places to see and go 😃.
En cada viaje que hago confirmo que mi país es hermoso, de norte a sur, haga frío o calor, tenga que ir cerca o lejos. Mientras estaba allá habré agradecido al Universo unas miles de veces por tener esta oportunidad, por haber dado un paso más en mi objetivo de conocer todas las provincias, por tener salud y la libertad para pasear por donde y cuando quiera. En verdad soy muy afortunada y espero poder seguir más allá, aún quedan muchísimos lugares por ver y recorrer 😃.
