Hello #HIVE friends. Traveling has always been a passion in our family. The excitement of discovering new places and learning about their history is something my husband, daughter and I share deeply. One of the destinations that stuck with us the most in our travels was the legendary Manaca Iznaga Tower, a historic place with an intriguing story of two brothers that left us in awe.
We had passed near this place on previous occasions, although we had never had the opportunity to enjoy it. A place that is already rich in history and culture, so we decided to make an excursion to Manaca, where the famous Iznaga Tower is located. But this is not the only attraction, because as soon as you leave the main road, you start the characteristic cobblestone street of that time, and next to it is the mansion that belonged to the Iznaga family, former landowners of the place; which is now a restaurant.
The Manaca Iznaga Tower rises majestically amidst the lush vegetation. The first impression upon seeing it up close was simply stunning. This 45-meter high tower, built in the 19th century, is a witness to the history of the region. What makes it even more special is the history of the Iznaga brothers that surrounds it.
The brothers Pedro and Alejo Iznaga owned this land and built the tower as part of a sugar plantation. However, its history hides a family drama. The story goes that Pedro and Alejo fell in love with the same woman, and the rivalry between them came to a head when Alejo challenged Pedro to a fight on top of the tower. Fortunately, tragedy was averted, but this story adds an intriguing touch to the beauty of the tower. Although it is believed to be only a legend.
Our goal was to climb up the wooden steps to the top of the tower to get a panoramic view of the surroundings. However, I must confess that as we ascended, my nerves began to betray me. The height combined with the wooden ladder made me reconsider my courage. I decided to stay a few meters from the top, while my husband and daughter continued the climb.
I could appreciate the beauty of the surrounding landscape. The fields that were once sugar cane plantations stretched as far as the eye could see, and the contrast between the green of the vegetation and the blue of the sky was simply breathtaking. Despite not having reached the top, the view from where I could reach was unforgettable.
As I waited patiently, I reflected on the history of the tower and how it had witnessed so many events over the years. It was as if it was connected to the past, a link to the sugar production of colonial Cuba.
When my husband and daughter returned, they enthusiastically shared the breathtaking views they had experienced from the top of the tower. As I listened, I regretted not getting over my nerves, but at the same time, I was grateful for the opportunity to have been there.
In the place, there are several individuals selling handmade crafts. Among the exhibits, some small figurines immediately caught my attention.
Our trip to Manaca Iznaga Tower was a unique and enchanting experience. The history, beauty and the mysterious rivalry of the Iznaga brothers make this place a destination we will always remember. Although nerves prevented me from enjoying more, the trip itself and the views were worth every second. Without a doubt, we would repeat this experience in a heartbeat. Cuba, with its rich history and breathtaking scenery, continues to be a destination that fills us with awe. I am proud of this unique experience.
