By an accident, Aalst happened to be the first and a bit unplanned photo-stop at one of our latest photographic trips to the beautiful old Europe in Belgium.
Everything happens for a reason, they say, and I agree with that as visiting this beautiful old city was quite a pleasant surprise as it is far from the most popular tourist destination in the country. Unfortunately we didn't have the whole day for it so we focused on its central part, starting with the Belfort and Grote Markt. They looked like taken from a fairy-tail!
It was a warm summer evening, the Sun was falling down so I was at the right place and the right time to make few photos I liked a lot later. So don't miss to check out the building silhouettes below and my favorite sun diffraction photo-technique :)
That was also the first place where we tried the specially double deep fried fries and they were sooooo delicious. Don't be tempted to buy two portions because each portion is huge and is pretty much enough for two persons, trust me on that, hehehe :) Even one of their many great beers won't help you eat it completely! :P
This was also the first place in Belgium where I noticed that on top of each building facade, facing the main streets, there is a decoration placed on top and each one is virtually unique as it seems that each architect or home owner had been looking to show off his taste of art. I am sure their is an explanation to this but this remains a mystery to me so far. So check out the last photo below to have an idea what I am talking about. I will write more stories about Belgium so I'll be sharing more of those building street art pieces with you as some of them are really "wow"! :)
I hope you've enjoyed this short visual story, stay safe!
