Warm greetings, fellow travelers, thirsty for new and interesting destinations to explore!
Today I would love to share with you my observations, feelings, experiences and of course last, but not least, a few of my travel photographs, from that unique, at least from my own point of view, museum of beautiful old boats, called "Porto Canale Leonardesco", found under the open sky, that everyone is free to go to, sit next to the boats, and enjoy a coffee, or another refreshing drink along. Or just sit and spend some quality time with themselves or their loved ones ;)
Cesenatico is a lovely and cozy small city, situated at the shores of the Adriatic Sea, I'd say in the Northeastern part of Italy. The biggest city that is the closest to Cesenatico is Bologna. Beautiful San Marino is also quite close. Both of these are less than an hour to travel to, with a car.
We visited Cesenatico in the late spring, when the weather is just perfect, to explore the architecture and the culture of the place. We went there with a small rental car and I remember it was quite easy to find a free parking slot at a nearby street, moreover, an added bonus was our slot for the car was under the shadow of a big tree, so the usual sauna has been avoided :) The official car parking is also free and easily accessible: "Parcheggio Piazzale della Rocca".
There are plenty of places to see here and much time could be spent if one wants to fully explore the place. Of course, the awesome long beaches, beautifully maintained and arranged. There a few parks, full of green and other vivid colors if you need to recharge your batteries.
Let me mention and the few churches, with their specific beautiful architecture. They are completely different from let's say, the churches and cathedrals I've seen at other parts of Italy, like Tuscany or Umbria. Their details and construction definitely carry the elements of the buildings located close to the sea. At least, that's what I felt being next to them!
Last but not least, there are plenty of small and cozy, some even fancy cafeterias and restaurants that are located just on the banks of the water canals.
So, what would it be? A pleasant walk by the boats, that are actually pieces of art, preserved to show everyone the history in a scenery way; or an hour with friends, siting and talking, with a cup of aromatic Italian coffee or other refreshing drinks, again, next to them boats while listening to the seagulls and the friendly chit-chats around?
Well, here one could have all that! No need to pick only one :)
We chose one cafeteria, mainly based on how comfortable the chairs and the tables looked, and we had some delirious pastry and coffees :) I am pretty sure, that if we had selected another place, it would again be pleasant. I could tell they all maintain quality services, food and drinks!
As I've said a few times, I really miss the artistism and creativity of our predecessors. It is so sad people don't create such art anymore.
Here is one of the churches I mentioned above. I was happy to hear the sounds of its bells coming clear from its beautiful bell tower.
Only twenty feet down the walking path and the same church looks quite different, within the new context of the other boats...
Do you notice the abstractness of the water reflections? ;)
Perhaps you also notice the bikes. As in the most of the Italian cities and towns, bikes - regular or electrical, could be rented if one wants to cover a larger area.
We were getting closer to the end of the canals, where they meet the sea. The "feel" here was more industrial, as the place was almost fully occupied by the boats of the fishermen and tons and different equipment, some of its purpose being a complete mystery to me :) Well, don't judge me too harsh, I've been living the most of my life far from the sea...
Here we visited and paid our respects to the Monument of the Fallen of the Sea, or "AI CADUTI DEL MARE" at the South quay of the canal port, in front of the Maritime Station:
A few minutes later, we were on our way back to the beginning point of the "Porto Canale Leonardesco" museum, enjoying the amazingly beautiful views along the canal and the few small bridges over the water...
I wonder, how would all that beauty look in the winter, eventually covered in snow? I suppose the tables and chairs will then be off the streets and this would make all that look like in a fairy-tale. Well, that's another plan to put in motion, eventually...
