Honestly, I didn't think this place would impress me so much. I was here twice a long time ago, but as it turned out, I saw only a tiny part of what I saw now.
Якщо ви любите скелі. Камені і дикий світ природи, то поїхали зі мною) Чесно кажучи, не думала, що це місце настільки мене вразить. Я була тут двічі колись давно, але як виявилось бачила лише мізерну частину із того, що побачила зараз.
I have been leading the church choir for 10 years. And so the team and I decided to celebrate our birthday with a trip. The children themselves chose Dovbush Rocks. I agreed, because I haven't been there for a long time either!
We used to travel somewhere every spring, but for the last two years, for various reasons (including a pandemic), we have not had any excursions. I usually travel alone or with 1-2 friends, and here I had to become a group organizer. I was very worried !!!
That morning it rained, knocking on my window. It was scary that people would change their minds to go, but the forecast promised that there would be no rain at noon.
But everyone came. We left on time. And - hurray - while we were driving the rain completely passed!!!
Вже 10 років я керую церковним хором. І ось ми з колективом вирішили відсвяткувати наш день народження мандрівкою. Діти самі обрали Скелі Довбуша. Я погодилась, адже також давно там не була! Колись ми кожної весни кудись подорожували, але останні два роки з різних причин (зокрема пандемії) у нас не було екскурсій. Я зазвичай подорожую сама або з 1-2 друзями, а тут довелось стати організатором групи. Я дуже хвилювалась!!!
У той ранок періщив дощ, стукаючи по моєму вікні... Було страшно, що люди передумають їхати, але прогноз обіцяв, що в обід дощ пройде. Ми виїхали вчасно, прийшли всі. І — урррра — поки ми їхали дощ повністю пройшов!!!
First we went to the village of Goshiv, where there is an ancient monastery. It has been known since the middle of the 15th century, although it may have existed before. As the buildings often burned down in the Middle Ages, the current complex was built partly in the 19th century and partly in the 1990s. During the Soviet Union, the church was used as a warehouse, so the restorers had to work hard to restore the ancient beauty! Now here on this hill ("Clear Mountain") is cozy, beautiful and tidy.
Спочатку ми вирушили у село Гошів, де є старовинний монастир. Він відомий ще з середини 15 століття, хоча можливо існував і раніше. Оскільки в середні віки будівлі часто горіли, то теперішній комплекс побудований частково у 19 столітті, а частково у 1990-х роках. У час СРСР церква використовувалась як склад, тому реставратори мали добре працювати, щоб відновити давню красу! Зараз на цьому пагорбі затишно, красиво і охайно.
The church preserves a wonderful icon of the Mother of God "Queen of the Carpathians". It appeared in the church in 1737, donated by a nobleman. As it hung in his house, it began to shine a bright light. Later, people came to the icon to pray and received healing from diseases. Church authorities after the investigation recognized the icon as miraculous. Unfortunately in 1950 the Soviet authorities confiscated the icon and it went missing. So now in the church hangs a copy of the icon, also ancient, from the 19th century. It also has miraculous powers.
У храмі зберігається чудовторна ікона Богоматері Цариця Карпат. Вона з’явилась у церкві у 1737 році, подаровна одним шляхтичем. Коли вона висіла у його домі, то почала світити сильним світлом. Згодом до ікони приходили молитись люди і отримували зцілення від хвороб. Церковна влада після розслідування визнала ікону чудотворною. На жаль у 1950 НКВД вилучив ікону і вона зникла безвісти. Отож зараз у церкві висить копія ікони, також старовинна, з 19 ст. Вона теж має чудодійну силу.
There is another impressive thing in the bell tower of the monastery. This is a cortillion. That is a set of chromatically tuned bells on which you can perform various works. Either a person can play with a special keyboard and cables, or a computer. There are 51 bells here. There are a little more than 500 such cortilions in the world, and only a few in Ukraine. And in Goshev once there was even a festival of bell music. Here would listen somehow to this beauty!!!!
У дзвіниці монастиря є ще одна вражаюча річ. Це є кортильйон. Тобто набір дзвонів, налаштованих хроматично, на яких можна виконувати різні твори. Грати може або людина за допомогою спеціальної клавіатури і тросів, або комп’ютер. Тут є 51 дзвін. Таких кортильйонів у світі є трохи більше ніж 500, а в Україні лише декілька. І в Гошеві один раз навіть був фестиваль дзвонової музики. От би послухати якось цю красу!
After visiting the temple, walking around the monastery and admiring the beautiful scenery, we have to go further! It is very close to the rocks here, but the road is quite difficult, mountainous! But respect to our driver, who bravely drove us almost to the rocks!

Відвідавши храм і помилувавшись красивими пейзажами ми маємо їхати далі! Де скель тут зовсім близько, проте дорога досить складна, гірська! Але респект нашому водію, який мужньо довіз нас майже до скель! Вдихаємо цілюще гірське повітря і йдемо назустріч пригодам! Наш екскурсовод пан Олесь одразу завалив нас інформацією)))
The Lonely Rock.
So, the rocks of Dovbush are a unique monument of nature and history! Many millions of years ago there was a sea here, then it receded. During the movement of tectonic plates, this compressed sand rose from the seabed and formed such bizarre sandstone rocks. This is not a very strong breed! It is constantly changing under the influence of water, wind, human hands! The guide says that just a few years ago, a large boulder fell off the base of the rock.
Отож, скелі Довбуша це унікальна пам’ятка природи й історії! Багато мільйонів років тому тут було море, потім воно відступило. Під час руху тектонічних плит оцей спресований пісок із дна моря випнувся вверх і утворились такі химерні скелі із пісковика. Це не є дуже міцна порода! Вона постійно змінюється під впливом води, вітру, людських рук! Гід розповідає, що буквально кілька років тому велика кам’яна брила відвалилась від основи скелі.
We are at an altitude of over 600 meters above sea level, and the rocks are up to 80 meters high. They stretch for a distance of 1 km and form mysterious labyrinths, gorges, stairs. There is a beech forest around here. Some trees grow right on the stone! It's impressive. The further we go through the labyrinth, the more I am surprised: I did not see it during the last excursions !!!! I understand perfectly well: to make a successful photo shoot here takes a whole day! In general, this place belongs to those that are difficult to photograph. Live it is much more beautiful !!! Therefore, my attempts are very modest, it's just a hint of beauty.
Ми знаходимось на висоті понад 600 метрів над рівнем моря, а самі скелі мають висоту до 80 метрів. Вони тягнуться на відстань 1 км. І утворюють таємничі лабіринти, ущелини, сходи. Навколо буковий ліс. Деякі дерева ростуть прямо на камені! Це вражає. Чим далі ми йдемо лабіринтом, тим більше дивуюсь: я цього не бачила під час минулих екскурсій!!!! Чудово розумію: щоб зробити тут вдалу фотосесію потрібно цілий день! А взагалі це місце належить до таких, які важко фотографувати. Вживу воно значно красивіше! Тому мої спроби дуже скромні, це лише натяк на красу!!!
The most interesting place for tourists is Purgatory! This is called a narrow gorge. It seems to me that in the narrowest place here is 20-30 cm. Whoever passes it, is cleansed of sins - says the legend. Most of our group passed, and even children 5 years old. Several people with large dimensions went around)))
Найцікавіше місце для туристів це Чистилище!!! Так називають вузьку ущелину. Мені здається, що у найвужчому місці тут 20-30 см. Хто її пройде, той очищається від гріхів — каже легенда. Більшість нашої групи пройшла, причому навіть дітки 5 років. Кілька людей із більшими габаритами пішли в обхід.
And so we came to the central lawn. In pagan times there was an observatory and a temple, from which various signs remain on the walls. Instead, in the Middle Ages (10th-13th centuries) there was a wooden fortress.
On three sides it was protected by rocks, and on the fourth there was a shaft and a moat with a suspension bridge. People could live in caves. There is also a well carved into the stone, but there is no water there. Merchants traveling from North to South could spend the night and rest here. After all, times were turbulent. Subsequently, the settlement fell into disrepair.
І ось ми дійшли до центральної галявини. В язичницькі часи тут була обсерваторія і храм, від якого лишились різні знаки на стінах. Натомість у середньовіччі (10-12 ст) на цій поляні була фортеця з дерева. З трьох сторін її захищали скелі, а з четвертої був вал і рів з підвісним мостом. У печерах могли жити люди. Також тут є криниця видовбана у камені, але води там немає. Купці, які їхали з Півночі на Південь могли тут переночувати і відпочити. Адже часи були неспокійні. Згодом городище занепало.
And in the middle of the 18th century the opryshki movement spread throughout the region. Among the famous heroes of this movement is Oleksa Dovbush, after whom this place is named, as well as many other places in the Carpathians! He is like a Ukrainian Robin Hood. Opryshky are peasants who found it very difficult to live. They fled from the lords to the mountains and forests. They attacked and plundered rich travelers or lords' estates. It was difficult to catch them because they knew the territory perfectly. It is said that in 1744 Dovbush and his friends during one of the campaigns rested and lived here on these rocks. Every tourist place has its own legend. It is said that there are hidden treasures of Dovbush on the top of the Lonely Rock. They were searched, but have not been found yet!
The only treasure I have found is the incredible beauty of nature. From the top of the rocks you can see the surrounding mountains.
А в середині 18 століття у цілому регіоні поширився рух опришків. Серед відомих героїв цього руху Олекса Довбуш, на честь якого назване це місце, як і багато інших місць у Карпатах! Він є ніби український Робін Гуд. Опришки — це селяни, яким дуже важко жилось. Вони втікали від панів у гори і ліси, робили собі житла у неприступних місцях. Вони нападали на багатих подорожніх або на панські маєтки і грабували їх. У 1744 році Довбуш і його друзі під час одного з походів відпочивали і жили тут, на цих скелях. Кожне туристичне місце має свою легенду. Кажуть, на вершині Одинокої скелі є заховані скарби Довбуша. Їх шукали, але поки що не знайшли! Скарб, який я знайшла — це неймовірна краса природи.
After a long tour we, tired, with bruises and torn jeans (I'm talking about myself))) went to a cafe, where we had a delicious lunch. We ate everything so fast that you won't see a photo of the food. But then there was some free time. The older enjoyed the singing of our guitarists. We were sitting in a kolyba (such a wooden house), a fire was burning in the center. It was very cozy. The children ran out in search of beautiful views for selfies))) I tried to combine the two activities.
Після довгої екскурсії ми, втомлені, із синцями та дехто з порваними джинсами (це я про себе))) пішли у кафе, де нас чекав смачний обід. Згодом ще було трохи вільного часу. Старші насолоджувались співом наших гітаристів. Ми сиділи у колибі, у центрі горіло вогнище. Було дуже затишно. Діти побігли у пошуках красивих видів для селфі) Я намагалась поєднати дві активності.
The cafe is beautifully decorated: there are wooden sculptures, and various ancient tools, and many swings for children and adults. Everything is made entirely of wood. This place called "Rock" is also a campsite where you can set up a tent, take a shower and charge gadgets. The prices for food here are quite symbolic (for 3-4 $ you can eat enough).
Кафе красиво оформлене: тут і деревяні скульптури, і різні старовинні знаряддя праці, і багато гойдалок для дітей і дорослих. Все повністю зроблене з дерева. Це місце що зветься “Скеля” це також і кемпінг, де можна розкласти намет, прийнти душ і зарядити гаджети. Ціни на їжу тут ціком символічні (за 3-4 $ можна наїстись досита).
Conclusion: I really want to come here again for two days, with a tent. To look at everything very slowly and meditate. Many members of our group came up with similar ideas. So, the trip was a success.
On the way home, we stopped for a few minutes on the river Sukel, where there is a beautiful waterfall. And someone very brave even bathed in ice water!!!
Висновок: я дуже хочу сюди ще. На два дні, з наметом. Щоб дуууууже повільно все оглянути і помедитувати. Подібні ідеї виникли ще у багаnьох учасників нашої групи. Отож, подорож вдалась. Дорогою додому ми ще на кілька хвилин зупинились на річці Сукель, де є красивий водоспад. А хтось дуже сміливий навіть скупався у крижаній воді!
We were accompanied by a bright sun, which finally came out of the clouds.
