Hi friends! Yesterday was a wonderful day, Wednesday, and my friend from the other side of the country, namely from Kharkiv, came to visit me! The last time she was in Lviv was about five years ago and she managed to miss this city...
Привіт, друзі! Вчора був чудовий день середа і до мене в гості приїхала моя подруга з іншого кінця країни, а саме з Харкова! Востаннє вона була у Львові десь п'ять років тому і встигла скучити за цим містом...
So, dressed very warmly, we went for a walk in the center. We had an idea to climb the High Castle (I will remind you that in November I already went there, but I didn't have enough strength to climb to the top).
We got off the tram and started our way from St. Andrew's Church, which always attracts us with its antiquity and exquisite details on the facade. In an instant I realized that we had "hung" there and should go on, otherwise we will not see anything else. Yes, this is a feature of Lviv! Here you want to consider every corner.
Отож, одягнувшись дуже тепло ми вирушили на прогулянку в центр. По дорозі виникла ідея піднятися на Високий замок (Нагадаю, що десь у листопаді я вже ходила туди, але не вистачило сил піднятися аж на вершину).
Ми вийшли з трамвая і почали шлях від церкви Андрія, яка завжди приваблює нас своєю старовиною і крутими деталями... В одну мить я зрозумів, що ми там зависли і слід йти далі, інакше більше нічого не побачимо. Так, це є особливість Львова! Тут хочеться розглядати кожен куточок.
There is a festive atmosphere in the Rynok (Market) Square, all the doors of cafes and shops are decorated with Christmas decor. There is a temporary skating rink near the Town Hall. My friend was fascinated by all this, and I was watching the clock ... After all, the day was a bit gloomy and it was difficult to know whether it was morning or evening.
На площі Ринок панує святкова атмосфера, всі двері кафе і крамниць є прикрашені різдвяним декором. Біля Ратуші є тимчасова ковзанка. Моя подруга була захоплена цим усім, тому в основному я слідкувала за часом... Адже день був трохи похмурий і важко було збагнути, чи це ранок, чи вже вечір.
And this place is called "Vernissage". Here you can buy paintings, necklaces, various souvenirs with the symbols of Lviv. In the photo above we see the Church of the Transfiguration in the background, and below - the majestic theater named after Maria Zankovetska.
А це місце називається "Вернісаж". Тут можна купити картини, намисто, різні сувеніри із символікою Львова. На верхньому фото бачимо церкву Переображення на задньому плані, а внизу - величний театр ім. Марії Заньковецької.
We started the ascent to the castle from Uzhhorodska Street, from a small old church. This is where our city was once born, but since then almost everything has disappeared. We go steeply up. Now the word "High Castle" we call the park. Once upon a time there really was a fortress made of stone and brick, with mighty towers. However, a long time ago, in the 17th century, this castle lost its strategic importance and fell into disrepair.
Ми почали підйом на замок із вулиці Ужгородської, від маленького старого костелу. Саме тут колись народжувалося наше місто, але з тих часів майже все зникло. Йдемо круто вгору. Тепер словом "Високий замок" ми називаємо парк. Колись тут дійсно стояла фортеця із каменю та цегли, із могутніми вежами. Проте дуже давно,ще в 17 столітті цей замок втратив своє стратегічне значення і занепадав.
There is a small fragment of the wall left from the old castle, which they want to strengthen and restore a little. Let's see what happens!
Now the most popular points for tourists are the TV tower and the top of the park, where the flag hangs. It is like a small copy of the Eiffel Tower, which also shines at night. A park road leads here. And then we are led by a metal staircase. And yesterday a miracle happened. A beautiful light and fluffy snow began to fall:) It added a sense of fairytale!
Від старого замку лишився маленький фрагмент стіни, який хочуть укріпити і трошки відновити. Подивимось, що із цього буде! Зараз найбільш популярні точки для туристів це телевізійна вежа і вершечок парку, де висить прапор. Така собі маленька копія Ейфелевої вежі, яка теж світить уночі. Сюди веде паркова дорога. А далі нас ведуть металеві сходи. І вчора сталось чудо: почав падати буде гарний легкий і пухнастий сніг:) Це додавало відчуття казковості!
After the stairs we walked a steep paved serpentine. Although it was sprinkled with sand, in some places it was slippery and a little scary. By the time we climbed to the highest point the snow was over and visibility was good. But unfortunately on the top was very cold and humid (at a temperature of -1 or -2). Hot tea and sweets were a little overpowering.
Після сходів нас чекав крутий серпантин, викладений бруківкою. Хоча вона була посипана піском, але в деяких місцях було слизько і трохи страшно. Поки ми піднялися на найвищу точку сніг закінчився і видимість стала хорошою. Але на жаль на замку було дуже холодно і волого (при температурі -1 чи -2). Гарячий чай і солодощі трошки долали сил.
A friend asked me: "How did this hill come about?" So, before this mountain was flatter, because it had a castle. However, "hill on hill" was added artificially! This has been done by Poles since 1869 on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the Lublin Union. Every Pole had the honor of pouring some land on this hill. At that time Lviv belonged to the Austrian Empire, but the Poles dreamed of rebuilding their state.
Now it is really very beautiful place, but then, unfortunately, fragments of the ancient castle were destroyed. Stones were taken from the ruins to strengthen the slopes of this hill!
Подруга запитала мене, як виник цей пагорб? Я почала згадувати якісь розумні речі. Так ось, раніше ця гора була більш плоскою, адже на ній стояв замок. Проте "пагорб на пагорбі" досипали штучно! Це робили поляки починаючи з 1869 року з нагоди 300 річчя Люблінської унії. Кожен поляк мав за честь досипати на цей пагорб трохи землі. Тоді Львів належав до Австрійської імперії, але поляки мріяли відновити свою державу і для них цей пагорб був символом єдності та незламності. Зараз це дійсно дуже красиво, але тоді на жаль були знищені фрагменти давнього замку. Частково з руїн брали камені, щоб укріпити схили цього пагорба.
But that was a long time ago. And nowadays almost all tourists climb to a height of 409 meters to explore the city from this height. Tall trees have grown from the side of historic center! About 15 years ago we could see more. It's especially beautiful here at night, but we did not risk staying until dusk, because we were afraid to go down through the slippery surface.
So we quickly went down to the city and got into an evening fairy tale... Powder Tower, Pidvalna Street with the Church of the Assumption, Dominican Cathedral. Everything became different in the light of the evening lights.
Але це було давно. А в наш час майже усі туристи піднімаються на висоту 409 метрів, що оглянути місто з цієї висоти. З боку історичного центру виросли високі дерева! Десь 15 років тому можна було більше побачити. Особливо гарно тут уночі, але ми не ризикували лишатися до сутінків, адже боялись спускатись вниз через слизьку поверхню. Отож ми швиденько спустились в місто і потрапили вже у вечірню казку... Порохова вежа, вулиця Підвальна з Успенською церквою, Домініканський собор. Все ставало іншим у світлі вечірніх вогнів.
Well... Than we were not allowed in the cafe. My friend really wanted to go there to see the medieval design. But I am not vaccinated. Since I foresaw this situation, a new plan immediately emerged: to buy wine and something tasty to eat in the store and continue our evening at home.
У кафе нас не впустили... Подруга дуже хотіла туди потрапити, щоб оглянути середньовічний дизайн. Але я невакцинована. (Про це детальніше мабуть в іншій статті). Оскільки я передбачала такий розвиток подій, то одразу виник новий план: купити у магазині вино і щось смачне поїсти і продовжити наш вечір вдома.
It is said and done. We had a delicious mulled wine. And I thank all my friends who come and make me discover and love my city in a new way!
