Finally, after a very busy year - the work year has ended and I have some time off! - So after my last workday, we packed our things and went towards the alps to visit my family in Krün.
Part of my family originally comes from Garmisch Partenkirchen. Krün is not far from there. It is a municipality in the Upper Bavarian district of Garmisch and belongs to the Werdenfelser Land and the Bavarian Oberland region. The German-Austrian border runs just a few kilometers south.
Together with Mittenwald and Wallgau, Krün forms the Alpenwelt Karwendel tourism association, which markets the region all year round as a starting point for sports and leisure activities such as hiking and cross-country skiing. Around my families house you find many Airbnbs, hotels or holiday homes.
The town is surrounded by pure nature such as really beautiful lakes and mountains. - So it is perfect to be outside, far away from people & in total peace.
We came here to see my family but also have some time off and enjoy the end of the year for some days - to get a little break before Christmas stress starts haha.
So in the morning we had a coffee and breakfast and then went for a walk with the dog.
A lot of walking tours, hikes etc. you can do just from this town, without driving anywhere first.
This is a easy tour, that takes around 2 hrs. The distance is 7km and starting/ending point are the same.
The starting point is the center of Krün - in our case our house.
Coming from the city center - at the maypole it goes over the Schöttlkarspitzstraße to the town hall, further down towards the Isar. From here you go over the Isar bridge to the left of the green signs in the direction of “Isar-Natur-Erlebnisweg”.
So we crossed the street, went along a path and suddenly already had entered the Isar nature adventure trail.
It was still a bit early in the morning still and the snow was frozen with little ice crystals ontop of it.
The path runs with slight climbs through the forest to the viewing bench, which invites you to linger and have a snack.
The dog was very happy to be outside jumping around in the snow. The path was covered in ice so a bit slippery but the view is amazing. And there were not many people around.
The lake was partly frozen but there were also a lot of birds like ducks and swans swimming around.
A few meters further there was a big field covered in snow, so we took a break and played around with the dog in the snow. He was enjoying it a lot. - Of course we also as the weather was just perfect and the view amazing.
It then goes back down to the Isar floodplains to a bridge, where you have an amazing view of the river and the mountains. Just behind the bridge on that path in summer there are several activity stations and numerous display boards that entertain the whole family.
When you reach the clearing, a wooden raft invites you to rest before following the path along the reservoir, where you can watch swans and water birds.
Also here the water was partly frozen and we were surrounded by snow walking through a winter wonderland.
It was just perfect to calm down and enjoy nature. After that we turned around the curve and had to walk up for a bit. There we saw a sign that told us, that we had another 20 minutes until we would arrive at the starting point (our house). So we enjoyed the view, talked about life and played with the dog on the way.
After a short ascent and passing by a little waterfall, at the entrance to the village, we keept walking along the Isar, crossing another bridge and then we were practically back home.
Of course we also made some videos of the trip and put them together in one for you - enjoy:
Cheers,
Liz
