Hey there, long time no see. Finally I got some vacation time, even if its not that far away, I just love to be close to the mountains at the most beautiful part of Germany - Bavaria! <3
Elena, Chapo and I are staying in Krün for some days, the perfect starting point to take a little hike to one of my favorite lakes: Lake Barmsee.
Locals and guests from all over the world find the Barmsee simply beautiful. Rightly so, because the natural spectacle on the largest lake in the Karwendel Alps is impressive: Lake Barmsee can dramatically reflect the Karwendel mountains in the sunset, the white-blue sky or the dreamy winter landscape.
The bathing lake, which is up to 30 meters deep, lies at the foot of the mountains south-west of Krün and Wallgau in the middle of untouched nature; Reeds covered with hoarfrost, gnarled maple trees, and the clear mountain air make the Barmsee very attractive (even in winter).
Until some years ago, the lake was a total secret place. Now it is getting more and more touristy, but it is still worth a visit.
The starting point of our tour is the center of Krün, accessible via the bus stop of the same name. From here we just followed the signs towards Barmsee and got to some beautiful meadows. Already from here the view towards the alps is awesome.
After about 10 minutes walking we reached a little stream. Perfect for Chapo to get some water before we moved on, walking along more meadows with flowers, cows etc.
After that part the forest starts. That part is full of energy and very idyllic. I should have brought mosquito spray though. They were everywhere eating me alive :D
What I really love about that hike, that there are so many different landscapes: Meadows, forest, reed, etc.
After surviving the mosquito attacks, we crossed a small reed field and arrived at lake Barmsee.
From spring onwards, seas of blossoms of crocuses, gentians, campions, and even orchids thrive here. The Barmsee is refreshingly clear, but also up to 24 degrees warm in summer. Ideal for swimming!
This path arrives right at the north-western shore of the lake, where the sun stays long. There you can lie comfortably in the meadow or swim in small pebble bays.
The best thing about Lake Barmsee: Whether hiking, swimming, or cross-country skiing, you always have a view of the mighty mountain panorama.
So we stayed there and went swimming for a bit. Took a break in the shadow, looking at the awesome mountains, and then eventually we went back to Krün, this time taking a little shortcut back through the forest, along the little stream passing a hotel, and then walking by the street before we came back to where we started.
In total it took us about 2 hours to get there and come back. We did go very slow though. A really nice walk with lots of different things to see and do!
As always I hope you enjoyed walking with me.
Cheers,
Liz
