SPCA in Lockdown
So we think we're being hard done by during Covid19 lockdowns, but what about the beloved pets that are being abandoned by people who have either lost homes, had to downsize or simply cannot afford to feed their pets?
Our already overburdened SPCA not only had to close down their charity shops, but have also been faced with having to feed many more animals and having to try to find new homes for them.
Sleeping Beauty kitty looked quite at home snoozing in one of the Charity Book Shop's shelves.
Hubby and I took a trip up the hill to the leafy suburb of Kloof where the Kloof & Highway SPCA (Society for prevention of Crulety for Animals) is located.
This hidden gem is very different to other animal shelters in that it resides in a Nature Reserve called Glenholme.
Next to the tree-shaded parking area is a gracious old farm house with a wrap-around veranda being run as Marilyn's Tea Garden; with funds going to the running of the animal shelter. Tables and chairs are set well apart under enormous trees which provide lovely shade during the summer months. A well-known local singer regularly performs here to entertain young and old.
Giant Jungle Gym for the little ones, some who kept their masks on.
The charity shops have something for everyone - toys, board games, paintings and picture frames, clothing, books, music, furniture, household goods and even a nursery.
I took these two paintings home, not sure about the second one, an un-signed original painting that somehow appealed to me, looks like a young sportsman's grimace?
I still have not gone to see the abandoned animals as that would really be distressing, but at least I know that we are supporting them by visiting whenever we can; this was our first visit during lockdown.
There's a Paws for Coffee van that serves excellent coffee but it sadly was closed on the day we went there.
Quirky painted table and bench.
This should Make You Smile:
How to Kill your Husband with Heartfelt Recipes.
We are all in need of a good old chuckle especially now during Covid19 lockdowns, so when hubby and I ventured into the SPCA book, I found the quirkiest recipe book ever! You be the judge!
I had to smile as the cashier told me that l could choose another book as this one was on the 2 books for R10 shelf! Talk about a bargain!
I'd love to share some of the real wicked recipes with you, but I think you get the drift:)
This is my contribution for the weekly collaboration by &
