Hello Hive!
Greetings to all and many thanks to for the tip to this bumbling newbie, to write a proper #introducemyself post before launching myself into the thick of things 😊.
So here we go. My name is Liz, I am originally from South Africa, but now find myself living on the gorgeous island of Zanzibar. I am a scientist (biochemist) on paper, but left the scientific industry years ago to venture into marketing - this allowed me to spread my creative wings, and constantly learn new tricks and techniques.
I'm a 38-year-old momma of two, wifey to an amazing man, and together we've become a somewhat nomadic family. We moved to Zanzibar not long after covid turned the planet upside-down, from the amazing country of Rwanda.

I will write more about our traveling lifestyle in other posts; for now, I will simply say that I count myself as one of the most blessed and fortunate people, to have the opportunity to explore this gorgeous island:
Above: Stone Town, Zanzibar
Stone Town (part of Zanzibar City) is located on the west coast of Unguja, the "main" island of the Zanzibar archipelago, known as the Spice Islands. The other larger island is called Pemba (I have not been there yet). Stone Town is a UNESCO world heritage site, and it's not hard to see why - the immense beauty, the history, will blow your mind. You will see buildings more than 600 years old; you will get to know a rich history. And...DOORS! Just look at some of these beauties:
And as you walk through the many alleyways and streets of the town, the treasures you come across:
My family and I reside on the east coast of Unguja. This side of the island is well-known for kite surfing and calm seas, thanks mostly to the large coral reef.
Not too far from us is the famous The Rock Restaurant:
There is so much more to say and show you, but I will do so in upcoming posts! Which brings me to...
Why I Joined Hive
As I've mentioned already, I do love learning new things all the time. Being where I am now, although I do work from home and I homeschool the kids, I do still have a large amount of free time on my hands. I've wanted to write for a long, long time, but I've never been able to put my finger on what, exactly. Lo' and behold, a family member informed me of Hive, and here I am 😁.
I intend to write about my experiences and the lessons I've learned along the way. This will range from my origins of living in several different countries as a child, to my divorce, struggles with mental health and overcoming addictions, to homeschooling tips, and everything in between! I hope to meet and get to know some amazing people along the way, and read about their stories and experiences, too.
So here I am, ready, set and...go.
