Hallo liebe Community,
nach einem reichhaltigen und nahrhaften Donut Frühstück ( 12 Donuts für 16 $ und top geschmeckt ) machten wir uns in aller Frühe auf zurück an die Küste. Über 300 kilometer Fahrt lagen vor uns. Unterwegs sahen wir unzählige der typischen amerikanischen Trucks auf unserem Weg durch Almond Country, denn hier werden weltweit die meisten Mandeln angebaut. Kilometerlange Mandelfelder die alle bewässert werden müssen säumten unseren Weg. Alle paar Kilometer gab es dann auch Verkaufsstände und an einem hielten wir an. Wirklich schön gemacht und es gab alles was man aus Mandeln und Pistazien machen kann, sogar mit Tequila Geschmack. Eine Packung Mandeln mit Sesam haben wir uns dann als Wegzehrung gegönnt :-)
In Monterey angekommen fanden wir auch schnell unser Motel, das für mich das schönste unserer Reise war. The Stevenson Monterey. Saubere moderne Zimmer, ein kleiner Pool, an dem wir uns von den Reisestrapazen etwas erholen konnten und eine Tiefgarage fürs Auto, was will man mehr?
Aber da der Tag noch jung war ging es dann auch gleich auf eine erste Erkundungstour in die Stadt. Interessant fand ich den Aufkleber "God belss our Troops, especially our Snipers", sagt viel über den durchschnittlichen Amerikaner aus, wie ich finde.
Nun denn, in der literarisch Bewanderten sicherlich bekannten Cannery Row ( Straße der Ölsardinen ) tobte das Leben und wir konnten den Green Goblin bewundern. Geiles Teil. Gegen späten Nachmittag schauten wir uns dann noch den Pier an auf dem auch einiges geboten war. Den Sonnenuntergang genossen wir am Pier mit Blick aufs Meer und machten uns fussläufig auf den Rückweg zum Hotel um am nächsten morgen für eines der Highlights unserer Reise bereit zu sein.

after a rich and nutritious doughnut breakfast ( 12 doughnuts for $16 and tasted great ) we headed back to the coast bright and early. More than 300 kilometers of driving lay ahead of us. On the way we saw countless of the typical American trucks on our way through Almond Country, because here are grown the most almonds in the world. Miles of almond fields, all of which have to be irrigated, lined our path. Every few kilometers there were then also sales booths and at one we stopped. Really nicely done and there was everything you can make from almonds and pistachios, even with tequila flavor. A package of almonds with sesame seeds we have then treated ourselves as Wegzehrung :-)
Once we arrived in Monterey, we quickly found our motel, which for me was the nicest of our trip. The Stevenson Monterey. Clean modern rooms, a small pool where we could relax from the travel stresses and an underground parking for the car, what more could you want?
But since the day was still young, we immediately went on a first exploration tour of the city. Interesting I found the sticker "God belss our Troops, especially our Snipers", says a lot about the average American, I think.
Well then, in the literary aware certainly known Cannery Row (street of the oil sardines) raged life and we could admire the Green Goblin. Horny part. Against late afternoon we looked at us then still the pier on the also some was offered. We enjoyed the sunset at the pier with a view of the sea and made our way back to the hotel on foot to be ready the next morning for one of the highlights of our trip.
