Why visit Uluwatu?
Uluwatu Bali is known for its pristine water and sandy white beaches. It's an area in Bali that you should never miss, as along the coastal line, you can please your eyes with a dreamy & instagrammable beach that you can show off around. There are also so many beaches to choose from depending on what you like to do. However, a must visit would be a beach called "Pantai Melasti''.
Before reaching Pantai Melasti, we have to cross a beautiful karst mountain with its wide road. This area is also a common place for filmmakers in Indonesia and all over the world as a place to shoot video footage. I am pretty sure if you are into traveling, you have seen some of these images around. Being physically in the place was 1000x more breathtaking than its picture. And as you reach the area, you'll know why this place is all around your web2 feed. The whole area is betwiching especially if you are into beaches.
Are you into surfing and water sport? Uluwatu is where you want to be. There are beaches offering experiences to do canoeing and also surfing with its challenging wave. In fact, if you like less crowded and more quieter spot to be in Bali, uluwatu is where you'd love to be as a surfer.
How to get there
You can reach Uluwatu, especially Pantai Melasti by car or motorbike. However please note that if you are not an expert on motorbikes, you have to be careful. Bali road is pretty accessible as the island is small. I doubt that you'd ever get lost unless you go through the off beaten path. Uluwatu shouldn't be difficult to find as you can simply use the beach as reference.
Like many other places in Indonesia, beaches in Uluwatu are also managed by the government, that's why there's something called "retribution" or entrance fee. The entrance fee in Pantai melasti is around 10000 IDR which is the standard for beaches in Uluwatu. If you go really cheap, with a motorbike you can find an off beaten path where you have to just climb down a little beach and have your own private beach at your disposal. But If you want to have more access to the beach itself with various activities.
Pantai Melasti
Our driver told us that this used to be an empty beach because people have yet to discover the place. But now, some construction of beach clubs and restaurants are on their way. The beach itself has a pristine blue water that tempts you to swim around it. The water is shallow, so you can swim a bit far or just lounging around the sandy white beach. This is really the image of tropical paradise that we all picture. Since the place is sizzling, make sure to wear sunscreen for your extra protection.
The marine wildlife is very much alive on this beach. You can spot crabs, even birds flying low unbothered by visitors. This is the part of Bali that I always love and can't find anywhere, especially in java. The birds were flying low trying to find food while crabs just hanging around the rocks and came out from their hiding once in a while.
When it comes to this beach, all you ever want to do is just sit & relax while enjoying the breeze. But since this beach is well-organized, you can find a dreamy park just adjacent to the beach. This place is heaven when you want to lounge, being lazy and just enjoying scenery. The artificial park itself overlooks the ocean which will make you never want to leave the place. So, make sure to spare a day if you want to enjoy the place to the fullest.
This place is also well-equipped with public facilities. So know that youโre getting your moneyโs worth. If you have spare money, you can visit the beach club and just stay around there, swimming in the clubโs pool while sipping margaritas. Since I was with my mom, I tried making this trip a bit more on the family friendly side. Donโt want her to know I have severe alcohol issues haha.
Unfortunately for me and my mom, we had to be on the move since there are a few places that we'd love to see. Our Bali adventure is mostly a nostalgia trip for us. My mom especially has been to Bali way too many times. She visited Bali even back in the 70's when it was much more rural, remote, and underdeveloped. Now, she's looking at Bali which has transformed a lot with the places she used to know are still there and remain unchanged. We sat on the beach for about 30 minutes before we were going to our next destination. Stay tuned if you want to get an exclusive Bali recommendation from me!
