One day my boss calls me at 2 am to ask me if I have a valid passport and the yellow fever vaccine. In between dreams I answered that I had both and the last thing I heard was: "perfect, on Thursday you are leaving for Rio de Janeiro".
It was the early morning of the previous Wednesday.
When I woke up I wondered if it was a dream or reality, because since I had been working with her, nothing surprised me. She was a whirlwind of ideas that she threw left and right, and I had learned to tackle them as if they were frisbees.
Once we arrived in Rio, and without a chance to rest, we went to a pre-party organized by the samba schools, in order to raise funds and warm up the carnival atmosphere in the city.
From then on, every time we finished the workday we were invited, until we had to say, no, thanks....
But when the carnival days arrived, the madness increased. We started the parade day at 7 p.m. and did not stop until 5 a.m. the next day, for 4 consecutive days!
The experience is unique. The adrenaline rushes through your body, and even if you don't know how to dance, you end up moving to the rhythm of the samba that envelops you, while you watch the floats go by.
After the festivities, the results of the voting to select the 5 best samba schools are announced and you have to wait a week for the next parade, which is called "Noite das campeás" (Night of the champions).
On this day there is only one parade with the 5 best samba schools of that year.
The next day, the city clocks are activated, indicating how many days are left until the next carnival!
Now, looking back on it all, I am grateful that I took that call and had the necessary documents. An opportunity like that doesn't come along every day!

Pero llegados los días de carnaval, la locura se acrecienta. Comenzábamos la jornada de desfiles a las 7 de la noche y no paraba hasta las 5 de la mañana del día siguiente, durante 4 días consecutivos!
La experiencia es única. La adrenalina corre a millón por todo el cuerpo, y aunque no sepas bailar, terminas moviéndote al ritmo de la samba que te envuelve, mientras ves las carrozas alegóricas pasar.
Luego de las fiestas, se dicen los resultados de las votaciones para seleccionar el cuadro de las 5 mejores escuelas de samba y hay que esperar una semana por el siguiente desfile que es denominado "Noite das campeás" (Noche de las campeonas)
Ese día hay un único desfile con las 5 mejores escuelas de samba de ese año.
Al día siguiente, se activan los relojes de la ciudad, que indican cuantos días faltan para el siguiente carnaval!
Ahora, recordando todo, agradezco haber atendido esa llamada y tener los documentos necesarios. Una oportunidad como esa no se da todos los días!
