When I first heard about Lakawon Island Resort in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, Philippines, I just knew that this place would be the perfect escape for me. But the photos of its pristine waters, peace-loving beaches, and relaxing ambience were too good to ignore, so I packed my bag and journeyed to see it for myself. What I saw there was beyond my expectation.
The Stunning Beach and Crystal Waters
Lakawon Island leaves one breathless. The moment I stepped on the sand, I heard that powdery pure white shore- the greatest greeting as one tiptoes on the shore. The water was brightly clear sunlights and had turquoise and blue blending perfectly into one another. It was so inviting that I had to jump in the wave rolling calmly toward the shore into my vision.
Most coveted and favorite was the quietness in the beach. Unlike crowded tourist areas, this place had that perfect amount of people- enough for me to enjoy nature as well as the view. From walking along the shore to sitting under the shade of a tree, the sea breeze and the sound of the waves made everything so feel relaxed.
The Famous Floating Bar
The floating bar called "Tawhai" is something you should not miss on Lakawon Island. It is known to be the biggest floating bar in Asia, and your feet would seldom forget the experience. The bar is only accessible via a short boat ride from shore.
Honestly, I spent my time lounging on the comfy chairs while sipping fresh drinks. The vibe of the bar was lively but serene. In fact, I met a couple of other travelers there. If you want to relax, take a wonderful picture, or sip on a drink while watching the sunset, the floating bar is for you.
Action spot on the Island
There's actually a wide variety of activities one can do while on Lakawon Island. Beaches are indeed enjoyable to have as well as the amazing water, but there are actually a lot more activities to try.
I would walk leisurely along the pier, which, from the top, offers such great views of the island as well as the sea underneath it. Below these clear waters, one could observe and discover different colored fishes swimming around; oh, how magical it is! For the daring, most water sports are found like kayaking, paddle boarding, snorkeling, and even jet skiing.
If you are a fan of taking pictures, this island offers almost everything you would want for an Instagram feed. Every angle-from the beach to the floating bar-is picture-perfect.
Food and Drink
And Lakawon Island got us all covered for food. The resort has a restaurant and is offering some local dishes along with some international favorites. Tried seafood which is fresh and tasted great. Eat it together with a coconut drink; it couldn't get any better.
What I really loved about this place is the entire experience of going out here. Eating the sea breeze, looking at view all makes a meal memorable.
How to Get There
It's pretty simple to get to Lakawon Island. If you're from Bacolod City, you start by taking a bus or a van bound for Cadiz. When you reach Cadiz City, take a tricycle to Lakawon Port. From there, you may take a boat to the Lakawon island.
The trip will be easy and swift, and the personnel at the port is friendly and helpful. But plan your visit ahead, so you get to enjoy the island for a complete day or even two if you're going to stay overnight.
Lakawon Island Resort is a small piece of heaven on earth. It is an ideal destination for relaxation, adventure, and nature at its best. Whether everyone wants an adventure or just a quiet time to themselves, this island has it all.
