A two day getaway to the North of France

We were supposed to just go to a few second hand, vintage stores in Ghent (our hometown) and -while we also did that-, me and Hive account@evavth ended up on a late evening drive to France for a little escape. Destination: unknown. Plan: find a good spot, camp and see where we end up the next day!

Mare à Goriaux

After leaving Ghent, we made the decision to drive towards France and see where we could end up. As we were driving a small lake on the map caught my eye and off we went. After quite a strange (a car followed us for a while and we still don't know why), but nice evening drive, we arrived at the entrance to the lake. Closed. Of course we weren't planning on letting that stop us, so we parked Herman (it's what we named the old red Mazda from 1994) just outside, grabbed some wine, food and other camping necessities and set off for a short hike towards the lake. It was already dark when we arrived, but even so it was easy to tell that the morning view would be spectacular. After struggling with the tent for a while (it was quite rocky underground) we ended up relaxing on a quay for a good hour before falling asleep in the tent. As expected the morning view was incredible. We woke at 6 a.m., wild camping life, but ended up relaxing and sleepig some on the quay until 11 a.m. A little breakfast on a small fire later, we decided it was time to set out again!

Cap Blanc-Nez

We drove to Cap Blanc-Nez not quite sure what to expect. But we definitely got positively surprised on that regard. Cliffs hanging over the sea and an incredible viewpoint on top of the cape itself. We decided to go for a swim first and explore the coast a bit, after we drove up to the waypoint. You can see the UK from there as well, which was quite wonderful at night when the lights started coming on. We ended up meeting two other people from Ghent and from sunset to sunrise we ended up spending time together. Good conversation, some wine, an amazing sunset and sunrise and a great camping spot in a lovely spot, really, what more do you want? 😄
