Before I tell this post, sorry for those of you who are non-Muslims if I tell you about my place of worship, I will discuss about the architecture in this place which I think is very unique. At first, my husband and I were not too sure that the building was a mosque, because from the dome that was displayed and the architecture that was built it looked as if the building was just a government office built in the middle of the city center.
Curious about what we saw, we decided to visit the building. This building is located in the center of the city, with a fairly large parking lot, a magnificent building, and tamarind trees that surround this building, and the cleanliness of the place that is maintained makes this building seem more luxurious. And when we entered the mosque area, it turned out that this mosque was being renovated and repainted to make it even more maintained.
This mosque is named Baitul Musyahadah, a mosque with a dome located on it in the shape of a cap or skullcap like the Indonesian National Hero who came from the city of Aceh named Teuku Umar. The dome of this mosque was inspired from there, and is very identical to the skullcap worn by the National Hero Teuku Umar.
This mosque is located on Jalan Teuku Umar, Geuceu Kayee Jato, Banda Raya District, Aceh City. From the information we got from the local community, this mosque was built with a unique architecture and is in the form of a 5-sided or Limas, as a symbol of the 5 pillars of Islam. This mosque is a mosque with a building resembling a kupiah or a cap and is the only mosque that has this kind of architecture.
Teuku Umar's Kupiah as seen above the Mosque, also known as the Aceh Meukutop Kupiah, which is now widely used as souvenirs for tourists from outside the city of Banda Aceh, this Kupiah can also be used for those of you who are non-Muslims, so don't hesitate to buy it as a memento when you visit the city of Banda Aceh.
Back again to the architecture of the mosque, at the beginning I have discussed the architecture of the dome, and now we will go into the mosque. This mosque is very spacious with a very simple architecture, but it seems quite luxurious with a classic style that is very thick with the customs that exist in the city of Banda Aceh itself. The classic pillars are large and stand strong and are covered with premium marble, as if they are integrated with the architecture that was built on the floor of the mosque.
Satisfied with seeing the architecture inside the mosque, we continued to observe the outside of the mosque. It turned out that this mosque has 5 entrances that describe the pillars of Islam, and at each entrance we will find a gate with the architecture of each gate on top of which is also a kupiah. Our conclusion on the visit to this mosque is that, apart from being a place of worship for the Muslim community, here we will also find new knowledge about the culture and history of this mosque, as well as the Hero Teuku Umar who became a National Hero of Indonesia.
