These days are very busy with celebrations all around Bulgaria. Every village and town has its own festival which is related with various plants, goods, or something that makes the place famous. Although many villages in the region celebrate in the spring with the roses blooming, yet tHere are others that celebrate in the autumn. Golyamo Dryanovo is a small village that is famous with its walnut trees which are everywhere on the streets and in the fields around the village.
And because this village is about 10 kilometers away from our city, we decided to visit it in the Saturday afternoon and spend some family time together, as the weather is not that cold yet. It was not before 1 o’clock when we reached the village. We wanted to have lunch at home ant have a walk before the kids were too tired. They usually go to bet about 15:00 every day.
There were a lot of people attending the festival and we managed to park our car near the entrance of the village. Luckily, the center was just 200 meters away and it was not that tough for the little guy to walk and be carried a bit by his daddy! He easily walks in his own already and becomes more and more stable with every single day.
Like every village festival or celebration, there are a set of treats that can be found everywhere, like sugar roosters, pancakes, donuts and wherever you go, you know that there will be a lot of these for sure. Of course they are ultimately the first stop for the kids and you cannot refuse buying some treats. Luckily the little man is not that grown up yet and doesn’t know what happens at all, but he manages to take a share from his brother’s “trophies”.
All over the place there were some setups where you could take some village photos but the kids were very tired already and I think they weren’t in the mood of being photographed. They were really difficult to be predisposed in order to look happy.
Of course, what is a chestnut festival without some walnuts? The nuts were selling at about $4 per kg with their shells, or 7$for clear nuts. This is relatively cheap price and the variety that was selling there was very easy for removing the shells. The chestnuts were very fresh and tasty. We end up buying only 1 kg because we don’t eat that much of them.
There was a thing that managed to make up the children’s mood and it was a tasty hazelnut cream wafer. My son somehow managed to receive it for free and the man that was selling the wafers refused to take our money. A very kind deed!
The wafer was quite well enjoyed on the pavement and we were ready to go back home… time for an afternoon nap! At least for these who don’t have work to do. We barely managed to keep the big boy awake before we got back home, because he was really tired after the walk in the afternoon.
In the evening it was time to enjoy some walnuts and I thought it will be most suitable if I put some of them in my salad. They were really tasty and gave the salad a special touch and very specific festive flavor.
I have to say this was a really enjoyable afternoon and a weekend. The weather was perfect for outdoor activities and this festival offered some nice diversity for us and the kids.
Until next time, be happy and stay positive!
Bye!
