Según criterio especializado, los Habanos, son los mejores tabacos del mundo. Para muchos entendidos en el asunto, son lo mejor en su clase.
Más de 500 procesos manuales, incluyendo los procesos agrícolas y de fábrica, son realizados entre la siembra de la semilla y la puesta en caja de cada Habano.

En nuestro viaje de fin de año, mientras íbamos camino a casa de nuestros familiares pasamos por este famoso poblado, la Meca del tabaco, como dice un cartel a su entrada.
En esa fecha la Zafra de tabaco aún estaba en etapas tempranas. Semilleros, tierras en preparación, recién sembradas, algunas plantaciones más crecidas, de todo pudimos observar a nuestro paso.
A pesar de que está zona fue duramente afectada por el huracán Ian en septiembre del 2022, se puede apreciar un inicio adecuado de la cosecha de tabaco. Esta labor constituye la principal fuente de ingresos de muchas familias de esta zona.
En la fecha que escribo este post la Zafra tabacalera está mucho más avanzada. Pronto viajaré a la zona y trataré de documentar para ustedes otras partes del proceso largo y meticuloso del tabaco.
