I've just had a look at Pinmapple and I can not believe I have not submitted a post on this amazing place that I like to go to with my little one for a FREE entertaining day out.
I have so much to share about this place but I will leave it for a follow up post. Today's post will be about the FREE air shows that are on offer each week!
A short drive from home (I'm privileged) is the Royal Australian Air Force Base (RAAF). Fortunately this place is open to the general public and even has a community you can join and support.
Each Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday at 1pm heritage planes that have been restored are taken for a test flight. During the week it tends to be just around the place but on Sunday's the retired pilots will put on a display of aerial acrobatics simulating dog fights and evasive flight tactics.
Occasionally they will be joined by a newer jet or plane but more often than not the old mustangs wills take flight and they are an absolutely beautiful thing to see and HEAR! They're loud!
With free general admission you need to get in early in order to get a spot on the grandstand.
Air craft on display are:
Winjeel
Harvard
CT4A
Sopwith
Pup
Tiger moth
RE8
Mustang.
If you're lucky you may even stumble across a Bird Dog or even a PC-21.
You can also engage with the pilots and ask them questions about their time serving and anything and all things to do with planes! Becareful as some things are classified so who knows what response you'll get back ;)
If you're keen on heading out, check out the weather as all the flights are subject to the weather. Best time to visit are the warmer months.
A great family day out or even if you're on your own!
