It was one of those hot summer days when even the statues wanted to be in the shade. The heat is even more pronounced in the big cities because the surfaces paved with concrete have taken their toll. There is no cool breath that a river or a forest can provide. Of course, it's easier in parks, because there's more greenery around... I think that's the reason why I saw so many moveless friends hiding in the shadow of the trees on that warm day in Good Retreat Park in Madrid.
No, I am not talking nonsense here. Just take a look, almost all my still friends found a good spot to avoid the sun's rays. One of them revealed to me the truth about the love-hate relationship with sunscreen products. Their surface can't absorb the cream. It is useless. They are white stone statues and should not sunbathe to preserve their original appearance, so the only option is to hide under those big trees. Of course, we can question this story as it seems a bit silly. I am just saying what I have heard from them... Maybe they invented this thing? One of them even showed itself in full size so maybe there is no fear from the sun.
I also received another rant from them.
The statues have been complaining that it is a real struggle to find some entertainment these days. They can't wait to see someone and talk a bit as the majority of the ladies don't walk here anymore - they prefer the shopping malls and busy streets full of shops, in two words - spend money. Money. Another useless thing for my stone friends. They are happily living without it and showing us that example!
The cousins of the statues from the Good Retreat Park have more activities. Much more people pass there when they want to visit The Royal Palace. I showed some of them here, but the rest of the statues were lazy to walk out from the gallery of my phone. They stayed there, taking a long nap.
Good morning Eurico and Ataulfo!
Finally, I walk out from the shadows, leaving the white stone friends to keep on with their daily life, waiting for people to go close to them and chitchat with them. I went to Plaza de España.
Don Quijote and Sancho Panza are never resting. They are trying to find windmills and fight them. The thing is that nowadays just wind turbines are growing from the Spanish hills. But he is not worried, he is a knight who will continue to seek adventure and dedicate his victories to Dulcinea.
Cervantes was happy with the attitude that his most famous character was showing. However, he was annoyed with those people who came that close to the monument to take photos. Can't they take photos like the rest of the people, from a distance?
For example, one can take photos from the other side of the monument, leaving the main characters to do their work in peace. I was happy with the Allegory of Literature and no tourists around.
The famous Statue of the Bear and the Strawberry Tree is a very frequented sculpture in Madrid. For sure, people try to take photos with them but the little bear is not really interested in that activity. He is focused on his strawberry tree. I just quickly greeted them while approaching the metro station Puerta del Sol.
My paths also brought me to the ladies that were posing in the wall of the Prado Museum. It seems that they are used just to stand still, at least during the day when people can see them. We don't know do they go out of this place when the night comes and seek some adventures with the other artwork in the museum. Everything is possible in the world of sculptures in this city.
