Hello Hivers!
Today, I am taking you on a different tour, a farm tour in our humble abode at San Isidro, Davao Oriental Philippines. San Isidro has a wide area of agricultural land and we are thankful that my father-in-law inherited farmland from his father.
Last Saturday, we decided to visit the farm with the whole family. Early in the morning, we had an early hike going to the farm, it is about a 15-20 minute walk from the farmhouse.
We will harvest bananas. We love to cook fried banana, sweetened banana so it's very timely that we are going to harvest. Here are the bananas planted on the farm and yes, there are a lot of them!
I accompanied my father-in-law in harvesting bananas. Before cutting the banana, he used a sickle to get a small slice from the banana for testing if it is ready for harvest. When proven ready, he cut the stem and get the bunch of bananas.
My mother-in-law then patienlty stripped the bananas into pieces for them to be easily collected and put in the sack.
Aside from the banana, I also collected the "puso ng saging" or banana blossom. Filipinos usually cook it like burger patty or ginataan.
My son also enjoyed harvesting Chili. I just instructed him to be careful because it is really spicy.
While I am enjoying the harvesting time, I also enjoyed taking beautiful photos of nature. There are beautiful wildflowers in the farm.
I also took a picture of the Philippine national animal, the Carabao. When I was young, I was able to ride a carabao.
I am also amazed by the dwarf coconut trees. The coconuts are just within my reach. It was planted two years ago and it now has its yield, ready for harvest.
Here's also a photo of an old jar, according to my father-in-law this was bought in 1950's. It was old but it is still durable and used until now.
After harvesting bananas, time for hauling. My husband then carry the sack full of bananas we harvested.
We then go back to the farmhouse and enjoyed other activities. The kids enjoyed watching and chasing the ducks, chicken and turkeys.
They also loved making the sounds of the goat. We also saw a garden full of cacao trees and bitter gourd (ampalaya).
These plants have abundant fruits. There are actually lots of fruit trees on the farm, I was not able to capture all.
To complete the farm visit, kids go to the brook to play and have a splash of water.
The water is clean and cold.
They enjoyed playing with the stones in front of the bamboo trees.
After a half day journey, we had our lunch and went back home. It was indeed a quick visit but a very fruitful one. I really love the experience because kids were also able to appreciate farmlife and enjoy nature at its best!
That's all for our farm tour, I hope you enjoyed it as much as we do. Thank you for your support!
