🛍️ Teras Malioboro 🛍️ 🛍️ A Comfortable Place for Shopping Holidays with Family 🛍️
Hi everyone, welcome to my blog again. 👋🔥
This time I want to share about the fun I had with my family visiting Malioboro a while ago. Although there were some dramas as well.
It's been a long time since I accidentally visited Malioboro. I could say I was kind of bored with the same atmosphere. But that day, our family finally decided to go there again. The trigger was simple, we were curious about that viral place. They say the street vendors are now gathered in a new spot, which we now know as Teras Malioboro.
At first, we were very excited, my mom and sister already cheerful in car. But as soon as we entered the Malioboro area, it was so crowded! I even forgot it was still the holiday season. The cars were crawling, and motorcycles were darting everywhere. We intended to park close by, but everything was full!
My head began to spin, not because of anything else, but because we had to drive around looking for parking. One official parking lot was full, and trying another parking lot was the same. We must have circled around Malioboro for a while, from near the station to the Zero Point area. I almost gave up and wanted to turn back home.
After a long struggle, believe it or not, we found a parking spot after about 40 minutes! Even though it was a bit far, the relief was immense. It felt like finding a treasure.
From there, we walked to Teras Malioboro. Upon entering, the atmosphere was instantly different. I remember before the vendors lined up along the sidewalks, sometimes making the paths narrow. Now, in Teras Malioboro, everything is organized together in a spacious, open building.
Inside, it's divided into several blocks or zones. The vendors stalls are arranged neatly, uniform yet still unique. They no longer spread their products onto the streets, everything is neatly arranged within their stalls. So, our eyes were treated to a beautifully organized view.
It felt like entering a sea of batik and souvenirs. On the left and right, there were colorful dresses, batik shirts, blangkon, and shirts with funny Yogya slogans. Not to mention keychains, mini andong, woven bags, sandals, everything we used to search for along Malioboro’s streets is now here in one place.
As for the sounds, it’s a different kind of crowd. No longer the noise of exhausts or honking cars that makes you dizzy. Inside, the crowd is filled with people chatting, the enjoyable haggling sounds between buyers and sellers, and the friendly calls from the vendors. That characteristic saying is still present: “Monggo, Mase, check out the batik,” or “Mbak, the shirts are really cheap.” But because the space is larger, the noise isn’t overwhelming, it feels more like the vibrant melody of a market.
Now, my favorite part is going up to the upper floor, to the food court area. The atmosphere there is even more relaxed. Because it’s semi-open, the evening breeze of Yogya can flow in, making it so refreshing. From up there, we can sit while eating and view the busy Malioboro street from different perspective. The smell of satay, gudeg, and meatballs wafting in the air made my tired stomach start to grumble.
Atmosphere inside is a unique blend of traditional markets and modern markets. It’s very comfortable for walking around with family, especially with older folks. We can freely choose items without having to squeeze through other pedestrians or worry about being hit by vehicles. My mom was going crazy over the batik dresses and cute crochet bags. My sister was also excited picking out cheap shirts with iconic Yogya designs.
Now, here's an important message for anyone planning to go to Malioboro, especially with family. If possible, try to avoid coming during long holiday seasons or long weekends. Seriously, the drama of finding parking requires extra patience. My experience of 40 minutes feels like a sufficient lesson. The energy is exhausted just driving around searching for parking.
But aside from that parking drama, yesterday’s trip to Teras Malioboro was really fun. The place was more comfortable, clean, and organized.
Best Regards,

Hi, I'm Tio, a lover of stories, whether written on the pages of a book, presented in adventurous games, or engraved in the incredibly beautiful nature of Indonesia. In my free time, I like to immerse myself in fictional worlds, build small worlds by assembling Gundam models, and explore new places that offer fresh air and soothing views.
For me, life is not about how fast we run, but how much beauty we get to enjoy along the way. I believe that every book has a universe, every journey has a story, and every second we spend in nature is a quiet expression of gratitude that calms the heart.
