This year has been one of the most stressful as well as exciting year I've ever had. School was annoyingly demanding, and my non-existent social life suffered a huge blow, no thanks to that.
Throughout the year, I was always looking for ways by which I could escape from the immense pressure I was being subjected to, even if it'd be for a day. So, when I saw the opportunity to take my mind off work for a bit, I quickly hopped on it.
As a befitting way to wrap up the year, the youth section of the church I attend in my home in Lagos decided to organize a beach hangout where we could all come together and be merry.
The location that was chosen was ATICAN BEACH - a private beach located in Lekki Lagos.
For those not familiar with the terrains of Lagos, Lagos is divided into two sections - the mainland and the Island. Lekki sits comfortably on the Island part of Lagos, while my church, miles apart, is at Agege which is on the mainland.
The journey there wasn't too memorable - we had the ever active Lagos traffic to thank for that. And our bus breaking down right in the middle of the third mainland bridge didn't help matters too. Due to these factors, we arrived at our destination 3 hours after we had set out.
As we got there, we were greeted by the magnificence of the Atlantic. She welcomed us with giant splashes of waves that left some of us awestruck; amazed by the beautiful work of art before us. Nature is indeed beautiful!
While others got right to business, I stood back to appreciate her wonder a bit longer. Horses racing in all their glory and majesty, curious children realizing the ocean's water isn't something they should drink, adults with their shinny cameras... The sight was indeed something to behold.
Since I wasn't going to painstakingly spend three hours of my time stuck in traffic just so I could stare at others have fun, I joined them as well.
I don't know why, but I was expecting I'd experience some kind of epiphany if I stepped into the water, but as you must've probably figured by now, I didn't. It was just me, a tiny human inside a large expanse of salt water wondering what I was doing there in the first place.
20 minutes and a few pictures later, I was out of the water. The constant push and pull of the tides and turbulent currents reminded me too much of how chaotic my mind can get at times.
I spent the remainder of my time there watching others play and thinking about the piles of lecture notes waiting for me at home. Once again, my school prevents me from having fun. 😅
Despite everything that happened, I'm glad I attended. And the next time I go to a beach, all I'd do is to just watch the tides beckon to the call of the sun and the moon without interfering.
Oh, and I brought a seashell as a souvenir.
Thanks for taking your time to go through this post. 😁
