I’ve visited many castles in the last 5 years, but my favorites have been the ones with Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque elements. But recently I have been wanting to see something new and different and when I stepped into the courtyard of Vajdahunyad Castle I knew I would not be disappointed. 🤩
I must have been standing and staring for like 20 mins straight.. 🤯 I felt like I was in a romantic movie scene, waiting for either Rapunzel to let her hair down or Romeo to call Juliet out on the balcony.
Although at first glance the castle looks like it dates back to the Middle Ages, it was actually built in 1896 to show the architectural evolution over the centuries in Hungary. In the courtyard you can see an ancient church, a medieval castle and even a lavishly decorated building in Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance style. The interesting thing about the castle is that in the beginning it was just a temporary construction made of wooden boards and cardboard, but it was so popular that they decided to rebuild it as a permanent sight. It’s an absolutely must-see when visiting Budapest! 🏰
