This could be my favourite small Country New South Wales town so far. On our never ending quest for new parkruns and exploring new places. We ended up at The highest parkrun in Australia. 1067 metres above sea level. The course itself is very flat but being up on the New England Table lands on the great dividing range gives it Australia parkrun elevation title. So lets check out Walcha.
Thunderbolts Way is a 305 kilometre long road which was named after a notorious Bush Ranger that used to roam theses parts in the 1800s.
Walcha has a very popular sculpture trail. We did not visit them all but did get to see lots of them on our visit to this pretty country town.
You can tell how everything is very green they had a fair bit of rain over the winter months which does make it look a little bit like England and no wonder they name the whole region half way between Sydney and Brisbane "New England"
The parkrun was along the river which past a lot of the sculptures. There was only a small number of runners and walkers and I ended up the first finisher. There is no winners at parkrun as it is not an official race. I did a couple of extra kilometres to warm up and cool down. Credit for the photos of me in this collage to the parkrun volunteer photographer. I also unknowingly ended up with a local legend status on strava as I must have warmed up, parkrunned and cool down all on same 1 kilometre segment.
Summer in the New England high lands had brought out some colourful flowers. I hope you enjoyed this quick tour of Walcha.
