Hello everyone, how are you? I hope your weekend will be enjoyable. This week, I will be in Bandung until Thursday. I visited a church that became an icon in the Old City of Semarang.
For me, going to church is an interesting trip, because it turns out that it can increase my faith as a Muslim. Okay, back to the church I visited. The name of this church is Blenduk Church, Semarang. However, it has an official name, namely GPIB Church, Semarang.
Building This church has a design like a mosque with a bulging shape like the photo. In Javanese, inflating means inflating. Thus, this church is known as the Blenduk church. I want to tell you a little about the history of this church. This church was built in 1753 in the form of a Javanese stilt house. Where is the roof of this church like a Javanese building?
However, the Dutch government changed the building in 1787. The changes made by the Dutch were carried out in total. So, there is no longer a stilt house design. Until now, this building has undergone 3 renovations. Namely, 1753, 1894, and 2003. Of the three renovations that were carried out, they did not change the original design of this church. This church still has an aristocratic Classical European architectural design.
Until now, this building is still used for worship. Changes made in 1753, the Dutch built two towers like a hemispherical dome. In the Dutch era, this church had several nicknames. Namely, Hervorm de Kerk (Reshape Church), Protestanche Kerk (Protestant Church) and Koepel Kerk (Twin church). That's the story I can present. Look forward to my next story.
