Good evening, travelers from around the world.
After a long day of exploring the local sights, I’m here to take you to a new place. Although it’s currently a bit neglected and run-down, it’s an important part of our history. This time, I visited Plaza Dolores Vargas.
This small but significant square is located behind the Rafael Urdaneta Museum in the Veritas neighborhood of Maracaibo. It is worth noting that Dolores was the wife of the national hero Urdaneta; she was not Venezuelan, and it is said that she played an important role in her country’s independence. For this reason, this space was dedicated right behind the museum in honor of his life partner.
Various walkways with some flower beds consisting mostly of soil, but with large and small trees visible all around; there were also a few benches along this short path. A couple of minutes’ walk brings you to the small monument dedicated to Dolores Vargas located there.
On a red brick base stands the bust of Urdaneta’s wife; she looks quite regal and serious, and seems to be staring intently. She has braids in her hair and wears some delicate necklaces around her neck. The details of this figure were carefully considered in the creation of this monument, and I really liked that.
Before leaving, I found some flowers that were hidden but deserved a photo, which reminded me that some places are simply there waiting to be visited. Although I’ve been to the Urdaneta Museum, I hadn’t seen this plaza located right behind it—perhaps because I was distracted, since I passed by this spot many times during my college days.
I would like to see this square in better condition, with better maintenance of its green spaces—that would make it more attractive. The good thing is that it’s very clean and retains some of its original character.

Buenas noches, viajeros de todo el mundo.
Después de un largo día haciendo un poco de turismo local estoy aquí para llevarlos a conocer un nuevo sitio, que aunque actualmente se encuentra un poco olvidado y deteriorado forma parte importante de nuestra historia, esta vez estuve en la Plaza Dolores Vargas.
Esta pequeña pero significativa plaza se encuentra detrás del Museo Rafael Urdaneta en el sector Veritas en la ciudad de Maracaibo, cabe mencionar que Dolores fue esposa del prócer Urdaneta, no era Venezolana y se dice que jugo un papel importante en la independencia de su país, por esa razón dedicaron este espacio justo detrás de dicho museo en honor a su compañera de vida.
Distintas caminerías con algunas jardineras conformadas mayormente de tierra, pero con grandes y pequeños árboles pueden verse alrededor, también algunas bancas se encontraban en este corto recorrido, un par de minutos caminando se llega hasta el pequeño monumento que ahí se encuentra de Dolores Vargas.
Sobre una base de ladrillos rojos se encuentra el busto de la esposa de Urdaneta, se le ve bastante regia, seria y parece estar mirando fijamente, lleva trenzas en el cabello y algunos finos collares en su cuello, los detalles de este personaje fueron tomados en cuenta para la elaboración de este monumento y me gusto mucho eso.
Antes de irme encontré algunas flores que estaban ocultas pero que merecían una fotografía, lo que me hizó recordar que algunos lugares simplemente están ahí esperando para ser visitados y aunque he estado en el Museo Urdaneta no había visto esta plaza que se encuentra justo detrás, quizás por andar distraída porque en mi vida de estudiante universitario pase muchas veces por este lugar.
Me gustaría que esta plaza estuviera en mejores condiciones, con una mejor adecuación de sus áreas verdes eso le aportaría embellecimiento, lo bueno es que se encuentra muy limpia y que se mantiene parte de su significado.
