It's been a while since I've been to this area, but it's always nice to rediscover old places. Pistoia, like many medieval cities, was surrounded by walls with four main gates. Unfortunately, only a small portion of the walls remains intact today, but one of these sections is located near Porta Carratica, so called because it was one of the gates through which carts passed. Pistoia was divided into four districts, each with its own gates: Porta Lucchese, San Marco, Carratica, and Porta al Borgo. The area I'm taking you to today is south of the city, near the station. It's a very beautiful spot, not only because, as you can see from the photos, you can admire and touch parts of the ancient walls, unfortunately partially ruined by an old factory that used them to put up large windows, etc., and also by some graffiti artists who use them for their murals and graffiti, but also because it's one of the most beautiful residential areas in the city.

Hace tiempo que no visito esta zona, pero siempre es agradable redescubrir lugares antiguos. Pistoia, como muchas ciudades medievales, estaba rodeada de murallas con cuatro puertas principales. Here, as in the entire Pistoia area, there are typical colorful houses but also many renovated period buildings, some private homes, others the headquarters of important firms. Old buildings have always fascinated me, and this area is full of them. Many date back to the early 1900s and have very elegant silhouettes. To be honest, the contrast between simple and elegant houses in this area is interesting. Unfortunately, however, in my opinion, it's too busy; I saw too many cars and confusion, and it's not very attractive for one of the central streets. However, it remains a beautiful area, with some reminders of the old days, such as the Madonna niches (typical niches in the walls with statues or paintings dedicated to the Virgin Mary that brought good luck to walkers; I even have a small one in my new house) and some stone alleys that still retain an ancient charm. The alleys are my favorite in the city. I obviously also took the opportunity to take a selfie (sorry for the terrible dark circles under my eyes, but with the move I'm getting little rest) with the ancient walls behind me. Aquí, como en toda la zona de Pistoia, hay casas típicas y coloridas, pero también muchos edificios de época restaurados, algunos particulares, otros sedes de importantes empresas. Los edificios antiguos siempre me han fascinado, y esta zona está repleta de ellos. Muchos datan de principios del siglo XX y tienen siluetas muy elegantes. La verdad es que el contraste entre las casas sencillas y elegantes de esta zona es interesante. Sin embargo, en mi opinión, es demasiado concurrida; vi demasiados coches y mucho caos, y no resulta muy atractiva para ser una de las calles principales. Aun así, sigue siendo una zona preciosa, con algunos vestigios de antaño, como las hornacinas de la Virgen (nichos típicos en las paredes con estatuas o pinturas dedicadas a la Virgen María que traían buena suerte a los paseantes; incluso tengo una pequeña en mi nueva casa) y algunos callejones de piedra que aún conservan un encanto antiguo. Los callejones son mi parte favorita de la ciudad. Por supuesto, también aproveché para tomarme una selfie (perdón por las ojeras tan marcadas, pero con la mudanza no descanso mucho) con las antiguas murallas de fondo.
